What is your 4 yr old dd interested in?

Ds by the age of 4 was fascinated by, in turn, dinosaurs, the human body, egypt, pirates, Rome. He knew enormous amounts of information about the above, poured over books for ages and would correct adults who got things wrong. He also has aspergers.
Dd is now 4 and is interested in errrm princesses and moshi monsters but hasn't got any detailed knowledge about either. She is bright, has a wide vocabulary and is very sociable and is definitely interested in life in general but is no where close to ds in terms of depth of knowledge or interest in any given subject.
My question is really: is this a boy/girl difference or a 1st/2nd child difference or an aspergers/NT difference?

I'd say it's both, boys do like to develop a deeper knowledge in more narrow fields of interest, but that is a key part of aspergers too, they just do it even more than NT boys. Your DD sounds quite typical, tbh.

My DD is 3.6 so a little younger than yours and is interested in Peppa Pig , puzzles (spot the difference etc) and playing a neverending round of mak believe games with her soft toys. She is bright and social and I don't have any worries about her development, but she isn't into in depth knowledge of specific subjects, although she does like numbers and simple sums.

DS is only 15 months so a bit early to tell whether he'll be different - his main interests are pressing buttons and pointing to his head Hmm Grin

I think your DD sounds perfectly typical of a girl of her age. I guess it could be an aspergers/NT difference to some extent (have close family with asd and detailed interests in specific things is quite characteristic of them), but it could equally be just that different people have different interests Smile

My DD (nearly 5) is roughly the same - she knows a bit about the body / castles etc cos I brought some books about them...but doesn't really have a favourite subject. She has favorite games of babies/families/nursery and we still get endless 'why?'s about everything & nothing (when does that bit stop??!)

My DS was (and is) as you describe, insatiable thirst for facts, knew reams of dino names etc. He is nearly 6 now and as far as we know is NT.

DD is 3.6 and in that constant questioning phase. She is particularly interested in bodies and how they work, particularly skeletons & what happens to food (i.e. poo!). I've noticed that the great lists of names aren't really there e.g. dinosaurs, engines in Thomas books, although she enjoys playing with those things. I've also noticed that she is a lot more interested in imaginative play with figures, if she doesn't have a toy to hand she will pick up a couple of sticks or stones which will become people or creatures that have elaborate adventures.

We don't have much of the princess stuff yet, but I expect this to come more as she spends more time with her friends at preschool.

DD will be 4 in Sept. Very lively/active, chatty and sociable. Has recently taken an interest in Volcanos, Space/Planets, World Maps, Fossils, also likes sharks, dinosaurs, animals.

Not sure where these interests have come from, sometimes she sees something on TV and wants to know more.

She also likes playing with lego, trains, dress-up, not really big on princesses yet, has a dollhouse that rarely gets played with, loves painting, play kitchen/baking and is starting to write her name and takes and interest in numbers and letters.

A pretty mixed bag I would say!

DD is 4yo and loves role play (pre-school, hotel lady, restaurant lady, aeroplane lady etc), princesses, and at the moment esp interested in Greek mythology and volcanoes.

She's never been the active type preferring to watch. Getting better at the active stuff though.
