Escaping car seat

Soooo I'm now having the palava of my just 2 year old escaping his Britax Evolva car seat. I'm not just meaning the straps - the whole lot - he can undo the clip.

So am I the only one who personally feels that a 2 year old should NOT be able to undo the clip on his own? It literally takes him a second and no amount of coaxing will keep him in that seat.

He's 14.3kg so too small to take the harness off..

So I lodged a complaint with Britax and the catalogue I bought the car seat from (after figuring out that the clip is actually faulty because it doesn't always click). Because I bought the seat in December 2010, the retailer is adamant that Britax should in fact replace the seat because they only offer a 12m guarantee... But Britax say that the retailer should do it because the guarantee is for in fact 2 years.

I'm now pulling my hair out thinking that I have a £125 car seat that is absolutely no good to me, and nobody is going to replace it and I can't afford to buy him a new seat.

What should I do?

Get extra straps on him & bollock him every time he struggles out.

Doesn't seem like he's strugging though does it. He's actually undoing the clip of the harness.

Keep on at Britax OP. If it's broken then someone needs to do something about it.

In the meantime, all I can suggest is stopping the car everytime he undoes himself and teling him you won't be ging ANYWHERE until he is back in his seat. Obviously this will work better if you're on the way to the park or soft play or something.

With extra straps on he'd have to struggle to get out, iyswim, would give OP more time to pull over safely, at least.
My 4yo is just learning to undo his belt, it's a milestone we all have to deal with sooner or later, anyway.

Sometimes he just needs to wriggle and it comes apart, other times he's actually pushing the clip slightly and it just breaks apart. When I first got the seat even I struggled to undo it :)

I've tried conning him with sweets, covering the buckle so he can't see it, giving him toys to play with, done the whole stop the car business he just undoes it every single time the car stops because he knows it'll come apart.

I'd hate to see what would actually happen if we were in a crash, it doesn't really bear thinking about and it really bothers me that not either company gives a damn.

The additional straps are actually more dangerous than people think by the way. Never ever.

Think if the retailer doesn't call me back within the next 2 hours it'll be a call to Trading Standards in the morning.
