Weaning and diarrhoea?

My DS is almost 8 months and we've been trying the BLW route for weaning with occasional spoon-feeding now and again. So far he's tried most major fruit and vegetables, rice, oatmeal, bread, rice cakes, yoghurt and some basic cheeses. He's doing really well on BLW and has learned to handle the food well but I'm worried about his nappies.

Ever since weaning his poo has become very runny and often just smells of the food he's eaten as if it's gone in one end and out the other. He has at least 2 dirty nappies a day and often three, with a very runny one later in the day after he's had solid food. If I give him any more than 1 meal a day, he just poo's it all out again. He had 4 dirty nappies yesterday, for example. Prior to weaning he usually only had 1 dirty nappy a day.

In the beginning, I thought it was just his body adjusting to the solid food but now it's been almost 2 months so I would have thought his system would have settled down better by now to absorb the food? When do they start to really absorb the solid food properly and eat meals? Some babies of his age that I know are on 3 meals a day by now but I worry that giving him more solid food will just overload his system. Did anyone have a similar experience where their baby was struggling to digest even 1 meal a day at this stage?

Napa it could be normal but I would take him to the GP just to discuss your worries and elimiate any physical cause.

And if you post in the Weaning section you might get a few more replies OP Smile.

Yes, my dd had runny poo - three or four times a day. Asked hv and she said not to worry unless it had gone on more than a week(!) apparently they won't get dehydrated as long as they're drinking milk as much as they would normally. Anyway, I cut brown/seeded bread out of her diet as I read that their wee systems can't take a lot of fibre and gave her white bread and that worked - normal poos.
