Need help with terrible tantrums - 8 month old

My 8 month old DD throws the worst tantrum I've ever seen and I don't know how to deal with them. It's mainly because she wants to be picked up and clingy is an under statement, often she won't even let me put her in the floor for a second. If you couldn't see her you would think she was being hurt!

Me on my own, I would just give in to it to get some peace but it's causing problems in my relationship with Dh as he says I pick her up too much (and have helped create the problem). We need to sort it out. I've spoken to the doc who says she isn't I'll (did have silent reflux, but she just wants attention).

Last night she screamed her head off for 1.5 hours in the middle of the night, it sounded terrible but eventually she went back to sleep. Sometimes she cries so much she can barely breathe, it's awful to watch and seems to be getting worse. It's before each nap, at bed time, when she is a little tired, nappy changed, or often who knows why!

Giving into her isn't an option for me any mOre so has anyone experienced this and did anything work for you?

Thanks so much.

I had an uber clingy baby who I carried a lot, he wanted me (not DH or certainly no one else!) at various points which was vvv wearing as it was me or bust.
He is now 3 and a delightful caring and cuddly lad who no, I don't have to carry round all the time.
Once I accepted he was Needing to be close to me, it did my sanity a lot of good- its a horribly negative feeling when your instinct is to pick up, and then you feel you shouldn't - 'you're pandering to them' ' you're letting them win' 'you're causing a bad habit'

So I wore him ina sling when I was making some food or doing jobs, or had him very close to me eg he plays on floor of bathroom whilst I clean the bathroom.
But over testing him - just walking away, or not picking up when he 'asking' or not talking to him most of the time, just really really unsettled him.
It's utterly wearing, and knackering, as it's relentless, it's not easy either when your actions are being challenged.

I definitely think babies through tantrums.. My 8 month old tries to sit up or stand or pull himself up, only tries once , if he can't do it, throws himself down and throws and tantrum. I know he's frustrated he can't do those things yet but it's definetly not a need for anything, it's anger. I think babies are smarter than people think, and it's so naive to think they're dumb and only cry for simple things like milk or teething. He hurts himself , cries then looks at us for attention. If he doesn't get any next time, the crying period is shorter and he learns that it's not a big drama.

I’m a dental nurse and just to add that tooth pain is always worse when lying flat so I always keep my baby propped up a little when sleeping and bad teething episodes arise. This seems to help.
It could be that she is teething and struggling.
I co sleep and it makes my life SO much easier. Just make sure to do safely X
