5 week old grunting, straining and squeaking!

my 5 week old makes the most peculiar noises when she's just had a feed or is getting ready to wake up for one. She is EBF and her weight gain is going really well, lots of wet and dirty nappies.

However, after a feed once she's falling asleep she grunts and strains while kicking and waving her arms in the air. She doesnt cry at all and doesn't seem to be in pain, and I'm assuming this is her way of getting rid of wind. Her farts are very teenage like at times! this can go on for about ten mins after a feed then she'll fall fast asleep!

It'll then wake her up usually before she's due her next feed. It's the waking her up bit that I'd like to avoid, its def disturbing her and waking her before she's ready This also only really happens when she's flat on her back. She doesn't do it if she falls asleep on anyone Confused

At least she is expelling air naturally and it is not trapped...ie colic eek

My 2 week old dd does this too, she grunts and wriggles and kicks her arms, usually after a feed, she normally kicks that much she makes herself sick which is an absolute pain, I was hoping she wasn't in pain but she doesn't seem to be either

Are you giving her a chance to burp after a feed?

And if you are not worried about her weight gain, am curious to know why you are waking her for a feed?

jaggythistle · 02/06/2012 07:26

if i remember right DS1 grew out of the red faced grunting and wriggling eventually! DS2 is 6 weeks old and still doing plenty.

also nosey about the waking!

My 4 week old bf son is the same. The hv and google thought me some massage techniques and lifting the legs up thing that helped. I love the swaddle pod too. Really helped swaddling him

Sorry bout spelling. He's asleep on me and it's hard to type

Not waking her for a feed, she grunt and groans then wakes :)

And yup, she burps too.

My daughter does this, shes 7 weeks old and has been doing it since she was 3 weeks old, its usually because shes trying to poo but she does suffer with a bit of constipation, Im hoping she grows out of it because it wakes both me and her up
