Nearly 6 yo and awful behaviour - not sure what to do now

DD will be 6 in Augiust and can be quite highly strung, anxious etc but has really grown up this year in Y1. HOwever, her behaviour in the past 3 weeks has become unbearable - rude, stroppy, threatening in terms of ' I will only do what you want if I can...' and at times, totally losing it, lashing out, real temper stuff. Total spolied brat behaviour.

We have tried time out ,sticker charts etc, as well as ignoring, talking her round. nothing seems to work. tonight, she said she would wee on the floor if I didnt get up and help her up - I said I expected a 5yo to be able to do it herself - she then looked me in the eye and weed.

I really dont know what to do next - she is normally quite a sweet little thing. I know she has been unwell ,and is tired and in nedd of her hoiday, but she gets up early and up in the night, so i cant do much else on the sleep front.

Early bedtime, 6 pm until she learns not to get up in the night, and to control her bladder.

We only get home just before 6, not possible!! the night time thing is a long term thing, with drs and stuff involved - she has actually improved and has only been up once or twice a night for the last week.

I will be sending her to bed earlier, but it wil have knock on with the getting up time.

If she's only getting home at six, she's probably not getting enoh sleep full stop, along with the night waking issue. Also it could be a touch of hay fever, which can leave kids really crabby

The behaviour is only a symptom. You have to find out what the problem is.

She goes to bed at 7.10; bath with little sister at 6.20ish, then tv, or reading or playing with DH while I put DD2 to bed. She gets up around 6a.m. She is not aware of many of the night wakings, in fact, she is not awake sometimes.

SHe has had a cold, which has left her with dodgy hearing, but Dr said wait and see; I am convinced the two are linked.

Could go and get some hayfever meds tomorrow; she goes loopy with piriton, but there must be soemthing else available over the counter.

I'm sure there's a liquid Benadryl.....

colditz · 01/06/2012 20:23

And yes, if her hearing has been poor, school will have been extremely stressful for her, which will make her horrible at home

olivo · 01/06/2012 20:25

good point actually, i did make the teacher aware but it must be toughtwith the extra concentration.I will go to Boots and ask about Benadryl, thank you.
