Any advice on dealing with a "bolter"?

DS is almost 2.5. He has always been a bit of a handful, very active, short attention span etc.

We have used backpack reins since he was walking, as he constantly runs off, wherever we are. He seems to see it as a game, and loves having someone chase after him.

However, I am finding it really difficult since having DC2 10 weeks ago. Today we went for a walk and sat on a park bench for a while. DC2 was getting restless in the pram so I tried to put her in a carrier. I literally had to do one handed, if I let go of DS's reins - he is gone. I am struggling to get out with the two of them. I have to put DD2 in the pram mostly as she is very heavy (99th centile) so I am trying to juggle the pram and stopping DS from running off.

We don't hace access to a car, so walk everywhere.

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions.

I agree I need to sort out the sling situation, she is in a BB at the moment.

I'd love to do something like that bluecarrot, although I suspect that what DS does in the garden at home would be different to what he will do out and about.

I think I was too ambitious trying to get out without the double buggy, I have a Phill and Teds, which is great but I hate the fact you cannot hang a changing bag off it...DS has multiple allergies so I have to carry an epipen kit, plus lots of food etc and using the P&T means carrying a handbag with all this stuff in.

Midnight - we had a p&t as well (and epipens/med box etc to cart around on top of the usual nappy stuff). Depending on the type of p&t you can get panniers for storage.

Or what I did was get some hooks and a storage tray for shopping and purse/drinks to keep handy, then a small rucksack for the rest of it. It can be done, and life is so much less stressful when they're both strapped in!
