My ds seems to do well at school and has had good reports with no concerns.
Since early childhood he has been a good talker with a good vocab and is also bilingual.
However he still says f for th ...as a toddler he said"hanks"for thanks, now he says "fanks" or when he is corrected, will say thanks.
Should I be doing something to help this... I correct and then he corrects and is improving, just that words he has learnt as having a f instead of th he may get wrong.

Reading level is v high and gen does very well tho is quiet natured.

could this be connected to the local accent?

if he is capable of making the sound, then I wouldn't worry too much

thanks.. part learned now part habit probably..

has wonky teeth and braces which hasn't helped

Good luck, keep persevering - DS used to pronounce R as W which was frustrating as his surname starts with R. He grew out of it when he was about 5 or 6 and now speaks quite nicely except things like "I dag a hole" instead of dug (but at least he doesn't say "digged".
It doesn't help that DP says F for Th...infuriating (especially as DS's first name is Theo)

I'm 26 and I still do it! I find it really hard, especially if the TH is in the middle of the word. But it's regional where I am from, it's an accent thing.

I worked on this with DS - I persistently picked him up on it and got him to say it correctly, having spent some time working with the actual sound with him (this was at a much younger age than your ds)

I cant pronounce TH . I think it may have been a regional thing.

mistlethrush · 29/05/2012 21:56

My boss still say 'I fink' Hmm

Tranquilidade · 29/05/2012 21:59

Just keep correcting it and he will learn.

Saying f instead of th can sometimes be regional but can sometimes be seen as poor or lazy speech so it is worth persevering

I worked with a guy who was really really posh, he spoke beautifully apart from pronouncing every TH as F.
