Started taking DS to a toddler group after easter. Its a council run thing, loads of mat and slides for them to climb on, tunnels, ball pit, little ride on cars.

The little ride on cars that they can also push, DS has never had one of those, he had a vtech walker and then a walker cart thing full of bricks so i never really thought about getting anything else.

Anyway most of the other kids seem to wizz round the room on those things, some are seriously fast, DS (who turned 2 last week) doesn't seem to have a clue. He either just sits on it pressing the horn and looking at the various buttons it has, or moves really slowly putting both feet forward and pulling himself along rather than running along sitting down like the other kids seem to do.

Thanks.

I haven't laughed this much in days.

hmmmm - well my ds has had a trike since xmas, turns 2 next month and is exactly the same! We have tried everything to help him get the hang of it but nothing doing! I have no idea why not. Nursery claim he uses theirs but I'm not sure I believe them as he makes no attempt on his own at home and seems bemused by it. :(

Guess he'll get there eventually

You've not missed any development stages don't worry. My ds is nearly 2 and has had a little tikes car since Christmas but he still just sits in it and opens and closes the door. Some things they get the hang of sooner than others. For instance Ds has only just (in the last two weeks) started to build towers with blocks. Before that he would let you build it then knock it down again, he had absolutely no interest in building them.

I bought my son something similar for Christmas when he was 18 months. Now 5 months later he still has no clue how to use it so I wouldn't worry too much.

When his friends from nursery come round they all love playing on it but DS just ignores them and plays "cleaning the house", bless him.

I bought my (now 21mo) DS a wheelybug for Christmas. Apparently some kids can whizz about on those at a year old??

DS not only has no idea what to do with it but regards it with deep suspicion, as with most other ride on toys. Dangerous- stuff that suddenly moves while you're having a nice sit down!

Don't think he'll ever be riding a BMX in the Olympics. Grin
