Hi

I haven't posted asking for advice for a while but have just discovered a bit of an issue.

My 9 month old DS has just started sitting himself up from a laying down position. The problem I'm encountering is when he does this in his cot. He's very much in to trying to pull himself up but can't always sort out his balance and we've had a few incidents of him banging his head on the wooden bars in his cot (cue shrieking, shocked crying).

Can babies do themselves actual damage in this situation or is just part of development? I'm worried that I should be doing something to ensure he's safe in his cot but also don't want to be too PFB about it.

Any advice gratefully received.

I wouldn't worry overly much. Does he have a cot bumper? I got DS's cot an Airwrap for this same issue.

Don't worry. He'll get the hang of it quickly enough.

Thanks for the advice. We have got a cot bumper - not like the one in the link though, thanks for that - so that should help a bit until he's more stable.

Do you use a sleeping bag? I have found that my dd is quite restricted in hers and can't move about like she would normally do without it. Might be worth a try?

He'll be completely fine.

When DD first pulled herself up in her cot she did have a couple of really nasty bangs when she let go and let herself fall backwards, but she only did it 3, maybe 4 times before she learned to go back down on her knees. It's worrying at the time I know, but I guess it's the only way they learn (and hence they learn quickly!)
