Five year old girl will only play with boys

Is this ok do you think or would you worry?

My daughter is five and only plays with boys, there are around 15 girls in her class and in the mornings they play together and also lunchtimes but my daughter won't play with any of them. Most of them are very outgoing and seem a bit older than her in a lot of ways.

She rarely gets invited to parties where the other girls do. She is now saying her best friend is a 7 year old boy at the school.

She told me she is scared of the girls but then loves to chase the boys.

I feel it's ok I should let her play with who she wants but can't help feeling a bit sad seeing all the girls together except mine.

She never gets invited to play dates either as her boy friends don't like to invite a girl around.

Confused!

I used to only play with boys when I was young, I still prefer male company and the majority of my close friends are male. She's only 5, she'll experiment with having female friends at some point im sure, but just now she prefers male company, don't worry about it too much.

Does it matter? As long as she is happy and has people to play with if she wants to then I don't see a problem.

Can you invite the boys to play at your house? DS invites girls over.

It's good that she enjoys playing with boys. When she is older she may enjoy female company more as she may find it easier to talk about feelings etc with girls but not necessarily - some girls just get on better than others with boys. It's nice that she can interact with them so well. Perhaps they suit her style of play and interaction better than other girls at the moment but this may not always be the case anyway, so just enjoy it for now. I suggest inviting some of her friends round/to meet at the park or whatever, then she may get asked in return. The rule of making friends (of either sex) is always make the first move yourself - don't wait to be asked!

My 4 and half yr old is exactly the same. I don't worry-as long as she has friends what does it matter?

My eldest DD is nearly 14 and has always had more boy friends than girls and is a tomboy through and through, never been into pink, just tracksuits, trainers, rough and tumble - we always used to joke she should have been born a boy!

her best friend from about year 1 was a boy, she joined Cubs and Scouts rather than brownies because she preferred the company of boys.

I have found over the years that it has worked in our favour, having a good mix of both sexes means she seems to get on with everyone and is very popular.

It never really crossed my mind as a problem to be honest as she's always been really happy with it, so I wouldn't worry. Five is very young, I'd just support her with all her friendships, invite them home for tea, the invites will follow!
