My 10 mo ds is attached to one particular dummy. Not one brand- just one actual dummy! Not uncommon, I know, but he doesn't use anything else to soothe. It was lost for a few hours yesterday and I tried with other new ones (same kind), he refused them all. Found it again, and it's now on a strong chain. It will burst/split some day (soon I think), and I'm really worried about that day!! Has anyone any suggestions about what I can do in preparation for this??? All my kids have used them, and I usually remove them at 2yo, but I'm at a loss about this, as I don't know how he would even sleep without one?? Anyone with experience of this??

Can u get an exact replica?

If not then I would prepare for some noise and sleep disrupting.

I have done, but they are too new! He has moulded this one iyswim?? Was thinking of introducing a diff comforter, but have tried this (not religiously mind) he doesn't seem to take to it- if I persevere does anyone think it'll work?

A mum I know used to boil the new dummies for hours to soften them as that is the only way her baby would take them

I am a bit concerned about anyone giving a child a dummy which has been moulded or softened by use or by boiling. I would only use a dummy which is within the recommended period for use (a couple of months I think?) and not one which has been deliberately softened because of the risk of it breaking off and choking the child.

Dummies and teats do degrade and can be dangerous if they are used when old or damaged.

Personally I wouldn't risk that.

OP I would just persist with the new dummies and he'll either get used to them or give them up. Either way he won't lose sleep for long.

Thanks ladies, I do check the dummy everyday though as I appreciate the risk, this one isn't old, and I have always rotated, but just this week he stopped taking a new one, just like one day he stopped taking a bottleSad. Fussy wee monkey!!!
