My grandson is just over 7 months and is the length and weight of a 12 month baby. He does not look over weight. My daughter is very confused about how much he should be eating including bottles of milk. She has recently stopped fully breastfeeding. Weaning was started slowly at 4 months. He is still having a night feed. Can anyone help as advise can be very contradictory. His development seems ahead of his age as well...

Some babies are just bigger than others. As long as he is in proportion don't worry about it!

She doesn't know wheather to follow a 7 month feeding routine or a one year old!!!??? Confused

I would follow a what he wants/needs routine.

and guidelines for his age

if she is getting in a real muddle then she can consult her HV Smile

My 4 month old is the size of, well, he'll be going into 9-12 month clothes soon. His length is a bit higher centile to length so he's fine.

I follow how much he wants, the guidelines are just that.

After a few days she should get a sense of how much he's eating, just get more bottles sorted than necessary in the mean time. I asked my hv before when I started ff, who told me whatever he wants but to try to go 3-4 hours between feeds.

Doesn't a 1 year old have less milk as they eat more solids?

I mean length higher than weight!

I completely understand your confusion. My son is 16 months now but was 10lb born, 20lb by 3 months and so on. never been overweight, just has always maintained his weight/height above the 95th percentile. I BF for a long while but when i did start to introduce formula becuase there was such a discrepancy between what his weight was and his age, the formula guidelinbes meant nothing to me. What I tended to do was split the difference beyween his weight and age and offer him that. He he had it all I would possibly give him more but i didn't exceed the amount for his weight. It's a cliche but they do know what they need (most do anyway) and if you feeding too much hyou'll know. At 7 months my HV had advised me to stop day bottles so he was habving one morning and one evening and fully weaned. He started to sleep through at 6 months after a tiring 6 months of feeding a lot (but it was genuine hunger).

At 7 months ds had 5 milk feeds (one in the night) plus 3 meals. At 12 months he only had 2 milk feeds, 3 meals and some snacks. She should go by what he wants but tailor it to a younger baby as the minimum milk recommendations drop at 1 year - a minimum of 20oz/600mls of milk is recommended up to 1 year but it is ok to have more than that (from 1 year the minimum drops to 300/350mls or approx 12oz)

I have a big baby and he's 10 months now.

My advice would be to go with the glow and let baby lead. 4 hours between feeds sounds good for his age.

But it also depends how much he's drinking and eating, my pudding has never finished a 7 oz bottle. He just prefers little and often.

Don't let your dd worry about his height and weight. There are lots of big babies and lots of small. As long as she's feeding him healthy/suitable foods and he's drinking plenty of milk, there's nothing to worry about.

With formula, make up a nine oz bottle each feed and just see howuch he drinks on average. After a day or two, you'll know how much he'll want.

Like my ds2 is six oz all day and a seven oz before bed.
