Hi - DS is 15mths and v good natured ... but refuses to acknowledge the word No. Since he's been mobile (3mths) there is not a single item I've managed to teach him not to touch. I'm consistent, I'm stern, I try to inject a sense of urgency when I say it, I've tried punishment like plopping him on the floor and ignoring him for a minute if he continuously does the same thing despite being told not to ... nothing seems to work!! Any suggestions please? He is trashing our home and I need to make him see that not everything is fair game! Thanks

umm he is still little! only use NO when you really need to ie he is in danger of hurting himself!

the rest of the time you need to distract distract distract and make your home as toddler proof as possible tbh.

my 16mth old dd is a mad climber at the moment, i need eyes in the back of my head! but its a phase, you can talk and reason with them a bit more as they older etc, but at this age, they dont really have the memory to learn that somethings cant be touched, so you will be repeating NO adinfinitum!

everything is new and interesting they are just exploring and learning not being naught as such, they are testing for reactions etc as well :)

Thanks ... just feel inferior as sis' little girl seems to understand it perfectly at the same age!!! Agree that distraction works well, thanks!

Agree with 5madthings, say no firmly then if you can move the object, do so, if not, distract away. If you make great dramatic noises and movements, he will learn that it's huge fun to touch the thing mummy says "NO!" to.

Enjoy it while it lasts. In a couple of months it will be his favourite word Grin
