dummy for a baby who won't take a dummy

Hi, Wondered whether anyone has discovered a dummy that an anti-dummy baby will take?
My 12 week old is looking suspiciously attached to his fist (thumb??) and I can't get him to take a dummy... have tried: tommy tippee and a mystery Avent one which was given to me. Also hoping it may help with daytime naps which are sporadic, minimal and hard to come by!
All ideas/ tips very welcome! thanks...

When my DS grew out of his newborn dummy he wouldn't take to any other dummy except the Mama ones. They are expensive (£4.50 for 2) but he likes them.

If you can't find any dummy he won't take to, I would just leave it. If he is going to be a thumb sucker, a dummy won't stop that.

The Mam ones worked for us too.

They prefer the old fashioned cherry ones in my experience.

MAM all the way.

A great tip I learned from MN is to tap the dummy about 10 times when you pop it in their mouth. Tapping it in seems to work much better than pushing.

MAM is the only dummy our baby will use, too...

I'm not sure you can force a baby to take a dummy -

DD would NEVER take a dummy - tried almost from birth. She still sucks her thumb and is nearly 13Shock

DS would NEVER take a dummy, but NEVER sucked his thumb. He has his cloth still though and he's 11Grin

I agree with brett about cherry ones. Does he not take it at all, or does it come out of his mouth shortly after? We found that DS couldn't hold the orthodontic ones in his mouth for a long while, so we switched to cherry ones, which he managed to keep in. Changed back when he had his first tooth at around 5-6 months. HTH :)

My two never had a dummy I think if you are really desperate when they are babies maaybe but I would do anything not to use one as the weaning them off them when they are toddlers can be so hard. I think if they are not taking them then that is a sign they don't want or need one!!! My niece took one from a newborn straight away and my sister said it was her saviour but niece no 2 refused to take one so my sister never used one and says it is best decision she ever made!! So if you can go without do, don't force one on a baby!!

I had no trouble at all taking dummy off my first daughter. The SIDs research plus they have helped to settle both mine mean I think worth it. I accidentally bought some 6m+ MAM ones so I will give them a go then.
