hi my3 7 dd has hypermobility.she was diagnosed at18months.
shes always pood alot!depending on wat she has can be5times a day!!
more often though its at leastntwice a day.im wondering if the two things are linked or if its toddler diarrhoea(is that linked??)
shes still not potty trained either&showing no interest in pooing on potty or toilet.she will wee though.hvs etc have said shes late because of the hypermobility.
so just wondering if anyone can shed any light on this?or has any experience of it?

Dd has hypermobility and goes maximum once a day do ime it's not linked

ItWasThePenguins · 01/05/2012 11:15

No. I have hypermobility and have a rubbish digestive system. Once or twice a week is normal for me.

outtolunchagain · 01/05/2012 11:16

The reverse is true in my experience

rabbitstew · 01/05/2012 16:47

One extreme or the other is far more common in hypermobile people. Irritable bowel syndrome is more common in hypermobile people, which can manifest as diarrhoea or constipation, or a mix of both.

My son is hyper mobile but it has never affected his bowel habits.

Dd3 is hypermobile and is the opposite. She goes once or twice a week.

It has been noted in various journals, with respect to joint hypermobility syndrome and Ehlers Danlos syndrome hypermobility type (if you think the two are separate conditions...) but not really anything you can do about it, besides what anyone else tries to do for IBS. Migraines are also more common, as are heart palpitations, anxiety, fatigue, low blood pressure, fragile gums, detached retinas, dental crowding, easy bruising, poor scarring, osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, reflux, stress incontinence, prolapse etc - it doesn't mean you will suffer from any of this, though, as the only absolute certainty is that you are hypermobile. Up to 50% of patients diagnosed with marked hypermobility also have IBS, though, so that one really is pretty common.

oh rite ok thanks.can a toddler get ibs?what i mean is someone that young?
she rarely gets constipated unless shes not eaten much fibrous stuff, but if she does have fibrous stuff(such as shreddies or wholemeal bread)shes pooing for england!!though it has got slightly better.i read in the baby book that toddler diarrhoea can carry on til theyre5so we assumed it was that but now im not so sure.
im wondering if i myself am hypermobile as when i was a child my left ankle would suddenly go at any time&then id be hobbling round in pain&have to rest til it went!also my jaw dislocates of its own accord on a daily basis!

It probably will improve as she gets older and her digestive system matures. That doesn't mean she won't continue pooing more than once a day, though, as some people do poo on a very regular basis, it's just not normal to have constant diarrhoea (ie not normal for the poo to be very runny).

babyjane67 · 01/05/2012 22:03

its not runny though when she goes lots it can come out the pull up&go all down her legs&on floor!!
so i should just leave it for while&see how she goes then?it may improve too when shes potty trained i guess

If it's particularly foul smelling, or frothy, or yellow, or otherwise odd looking, or your dd is otherwise unwell or not putting on weight, it's worth asking the GP about, in case she has a food intolerance or something, but if it looks like fairly standard poo but in regular and large quantities, then just put up with it and hope it improves!

babyjane67 · 01/05/2012 22:30

sometimes its v foul smelling!more like vomit than poo its disgusting!
its none of the other things though&shes not poorly with it
really odd thing yest morn though-she was lying on her tummy doing her aquadoodle then got up&complained of tummy ache.she wouldnt eat her breakfast&just led on the sofa for a while.afta that she was ok said tummy aches gone now.so i offered her some toast which she ate!she was fine all the rest of the day!!
