Hi all,
Have already looked at the product review pages, but thought I might get some good advice on here. Am wanting to buy an automatic bouncer or rocker for my four-week-old - could anyone recommend any, or give their feedback on bouncer/rockers they've had?

If it's sold by Mothercare, that would be a bonus, as it's the only shop I can easily get to at the moment.

I think the basic ones are the best as they mould to the baby's body more and bounce in response to the baby's movements.

A sling is better than any bouncer or rocker you can buy and has the added bonus of your heartbeat and warmth. Will settle a four-week old faster than any product.

Hmm, that's a difficult one as all babies are different, some like bouncers etc and some hate them. A friend had a FisherPrice one with a gentle vibrate that their baby seemed to like and it was nice and deep and comfy with toys hanging down. We had a basic fabric and wire frame bouncy chair that my dd hated and never looked comfortable in - but she didn't like being put down full stop and I spent most of her first six months holding her one way or another. If you think your dd might like it I'd go for something as deep, soft and comfy as possible, and a bar to hang toys off would definitely be good.

On the theme of occupying fractious babies, something that did keep dd quiet for long enough for me to go to the loo or have a quick shower etc. was a musical moving cot mobile (a Fisher Price one again). She loved it and would kick with excitement as it went round. She still has the music box bit on the side of her cot a year later and likes the music on quietly at bedtime.

On getting hold of things, Amazon sell a lot of baby gear and of course have free delivery, we've got lots from there as it's so handy.

one with a vibrate feature on it. i found fisher price good, i had kick and play for my 1st 2 and it was so good they loved it, but then we broke it and ended up having to get another one we got fisher price precious planet one, which i presumed would be pretty much the same and just as good but actually have been quite disapointed with it compared to kick and play, baby not seemed so comfy in that one

A vibrate one with breathing/heart sound function - Mamas & Papas used to do one, which was an absolute Godsend back then when DD would not let me put her down without wailing the house down - not even for a loo breakHmm

I second the Mamas and Papas one. Rather expensive, though. Mine was 3rd hand! It was a bit like this but heftier I think.

We have the Bright Starts comfort & harmony rocker-we ordered it from Amazon and it arrived the next day by post. The online reviews are brilliant and our little boy is crazy for it! Smile

I second a sling :-)

I got a mamas and papas that my poor bubbas head and neck went right over the side on, got back from the loo to a screaming bubba!

Picked up a fisher price cover and play and it's great! I even put him in it once we've had our bath and he watches me/plays while I shower.

He's too long for it really but won't take to his baby bjorn

Another vote for a sling. Kari me is a great fabric sling. The DC used to put up a token squawk as they went in, then soothe, almost instantaneously.

I would also say get a sling. Lovely for both you and baby to be in such close contact, while also having your hands free to get on with stuff. Mind you I use a sling and a bouncer, have a Fisher Price vibrating one with toy bar and a Baby Bjorn Babysitter. DD is almost 4 months and likes sitting nearly upright in BB, as she can see everything that is going on around her.
