Potty training - will she be early?

DD (14 months) has really surprised me in that she has a little corner of the living room where she goes to poo! (Obvs. with nappy on). She squats down and everything in the same place, bless her. This has been happening for about three weeks. My question is to more experienced mums - do you think that's a good indication that she might be on the early side for potty training when it does come to it? She's always been fairly advanced on the physical side - crawled at 6 months, walked at 10. (Not so great on the sleeping front!)

I don't want to rush her because I know that can be damaging, but at the same time I don't want to do it by the book if she's ready earlier. Oh, she's also fascinated with the toilet and has even squatted down next to it and had a wee when she was naked and about to get into the bath.

I would get a potty and try putting her on it at times you know that she goes in her nappy and see what happens with that.

Being potty trained for poo and for wee can happen at different times. Pooing is a more active process, so generally awareness for poo comes earlier.

You can try her on a potty, but 14 months is very early to be fully potty trained. You might find that she can poo on a potty but needs the nappy still for wee.

Ooh thanks both - interesting re differences between pooing and weeing - I hadn't thought of that.

Sounds like she is going in the right direction, but 14 months is really early. My DD was like this at 15 months, but she is only now (23 months) able to take her trousers up and down by herself and tell me when she has actually done a poo or wee, which are the other things they need to do to be properly potty trained
