5yo DS asking what sexy means

He is just 5. We haven't talked about sex yet as he hasn't been curious (until now). My plan was to answer all questions in an honest straightforward way- but I'm struggling to answer this one?

He said he overheard someone saying "do a sexy smile" while taking a photo.

He asked last night and several times before school this morning. I don't want to fob him off as I want to begin as I mean to go on with honest answers, also I don't want him to go to someone else for an explanation because I won't give one.....

Any thoughts gratefully received.,....

My 6yo dd asked me this yesterday (had the radio on and pretty much every song played had the word sexy in it!). I bumbled about with words but settled on "it's a word adults use to say someone looks very very nice, but it is an adult word and not one for you to use just yet".

That's probably wrong, so I'm watching with interest to see what I should have said Blush

My DS2 - also 5, told me I was sexy. I tried to explain that's nothow he should describe his mum and that it's something he might call his girlfriend when he was older.

A bit of a lost cause as he says he's going to marry me when he's older. It will be a sad day when he realises it ain't going to happen. He's not concerned that I am already married to Daddy - it's improtant to share :)

Slinky I think you've said exactly the right thing. They have no concept of desire at 5 so its pointless really trying to explain what sexy really means. I would also go with 'It means the same as pretty but its a bit different. You'll understand when you're older because its a grown up word. I don't want you to use it.'

What the others said. It's a way of saying someone is pretty but it's a grown up word that it isn't appropriate for him to use. Who was asking someone to 'do a sexy smile'?
