do you think my 23 month old is ready to drop day time nap?

He's never been a great day sleeper from being a tiny baby although has always been reasonable at night. Can't remember when he dropped morning nap i think it was possibly when he turned 1 or maybe even before. He has still been having an afternoon nap of about 1 to 2 hours but just lately it has been taking him longer and longer to go to sleep at night- some nights it been gone 9.

Like i said above he's not great at day sleeping and i've found over the past few months he won't go in his cot in the day so i've been taking him out for a walk (i need the exercise) and he goes to sleep in his pushchair. last Friday we didn't go out as weather wasn't great so he stayed awake all day, got abit grumpy later on but then straight to sleep at 7 and slept till about 8 the next morning (bliss). Also did the same thing sunday.

the only thing is i work mon-wed and my mum has him, round her house he goes and sits on her knee and goes to sleep and she puts him down on the settee. She is 60 and as DS is quite lively she enjoys a rest during the hour or so he's asleep. Yesterday he had a sleep and didn't go at night till 9, today he didn't and he was asleep just after 7. if he was going to nursery then i would probably say for him not to have a nap anymore but being as mum is doing us a massive favour by looking after him at all i don't want to make things get too much for her so should we still let him nap those days and have to put up with the late nights to bed?

Yes, sounds like a good compromise. You might find with just a few naps a week he'll still go down earlier. 2 is quite young to quit naps completely, but they are all different.

Well... DS is 25m and can have 2 hr naps but if he does it for several days in a row he starts waking v early. (opposite of your issue as he's no problem going to bed at 7:30). So we've been keeping him busy & if he has 20-30 mins in the car or push chair then fine but that's it.

See how it goes.
