How much entertainment do I need to provide?

Have a very engaged, curious 3 month old ds. I talk to him while I do things, song songs when he's in the mood, before bed he has about 30 minutes of naked play time which he loves. Pretty much the rest of the time is taken up with day to day life activities. Should I be doing more with him? I feel like i'm maybe missing something but I don't know what...

What, you mean to say he hasn't started German lessons, horse-riding and tennis yet?!

A three month old needs cuddles, food, sleep and to be just with you, whatever you are doing (well, ok, not while you mumsnet 24hrs a day!). You absolutely don't need to do anything else, unless you fancy doing a baby massage course or something.

And you also need to relish this time when he is just fine going along with whatever you are doing, rather than needing occupying / playing with!

I think what you're doing sounds great, just keep talking to him, gentle splashing and water play when he's in the bath etc. As he gets older you'll notice him start to take an interest in more things and be able to take his lead, so when he starts reaching for things put interesting-looking safe objects near him to arouse his interest. I remember going to a baby massage class when DD1 was 3 or 4 months old and the teacher gave us each a bit of silver crinkly paper (inside out biscuit wrappers as I recall) to put in front of our babies while they had tummy time and they were absolutely fascinated. On the whole though, the very fact that you're even thinking about it means you're probably doing all the right things already

Sometime in the next six months you could think about baby music classes, if you have the time and/or inclination. Good for language development.

Well we go to the free baby singing run by the church and i've signed up for a baby massage course. I suppose I just wanted reassuring that what I was doing was enough. Thanks :-)
