Is it okay for her to have a very sleepy day?

Dd is 6 weeks old.

I am breastfeeding her on demand.

She slept for 10 hours last night and has been asleep all day - she squeaks for a feed every few hours and feeds well but sleeps through while feeding, when normally she wakes up to feed.

She has slept through all nappy changes, slept through 2 school runs (in and our of her car seat and lugged up to the classroom asleep on my shoulder).

She usually sleeps on me during the day, and putting her down is a good way to wake her up, but she's been asleep in her crib for nearly an hour now.

It's not like her at all. Usually she feeds, squeaks, gets a bit grumpy, grins, stares at the tree, sleeps on me, needs a burp, has a big grunty poo, goes in her bouncy chair... today she stays asleep when I put her down... should I be worried?

If she's feeding and has wet/dirty nappies I wouldn't worry. 6 weeks is also growth spurt time. Some kids eat ravenously and others sleep a lot. Give it a day or two and see how she is. And enjoy the fact that she's sleeping!

Both dc did this during growth spurts.

Lots of wet nappies, though no poos since last night.

Just taken her temperature and it's on the low side. 35.1 on digi ear thermometer. Actually, she's a but grunty and arm flappy since I stuck it in her ear...

She was 3kg at birth and 5.2 last week, so has been very busy doing a lot of growing. Maybe she's tired.

We did a baby yoga class yesterday - maybe that tired her out?

God, you'd think by my 3rd child I'd be more chilled. I've never had a sleeper before though.

Low temp can be a sign of infection, same as high temp but temps in babies are v rare.

Use the thermometer on you to check it's working and retake. Is she rousable? No harm with seeing a doc if worried.

DS is a sleeper. He doesn't comfort feed either. Really threw me after dd.

Clever idea to check thermometer on me. It shows me at 36.2 and there's nothing wrong with me! So it's just measuring low.

She is rousable, but then quick to slip back into a very very deep sleep. My 3 yr old just put socks on her and she didn't stir.

She last fed nearly 2 hours ago.

Have poked her with a stick, and she's having a feed now. Still asleep though.

I think I would phone NHS direct or call out of hours service just to be sure. It is normal for them to have sleepy days but it also can be an indication that there is something wrong. I childminded a baby with a chest infection who was very very sleepy but hadn't developed a temp. It went up just after I'd called her parents and she was admitted to hospital a couple of hours later. It doesn't sounds like yours is poorly but you're worried enough to post about it so you should probably get her checked out.
