Im a bit worried about my little any who is 3.5. He doesn't always seem to listen or pay much attention. Im not sure if it just because he's so busy running about all over the place. He moves a lot except when watching telly. Sometimes its hard to get him to look at me and listen to me explaining something. He's always trying to get away and play or looking around. I move his face in front of mine but he just keeps looking away.

Im not sure just how normal this is.

maybe he's just being 3, or maybe there's a bit more to it (as well as just being 3 of course!).

have a look at either this book or the ones listed under the "customer also bought these" list below it. the moving a lot thing might be a sign that he needs to be moving in order to feel "right" but you'd have to research it before you could reach any conclusions.

My friend's little boy does not listen if you talk to him. So 'DFS Would you like some crisps?' no reply
'DFS would you like some crisps?'
'DFS, DFS WOULD YOU LIKE SOME CRISPS'
still nothing. Then his mother will say DFS mummy pig is talking to you, and suddenly he will listen.

He genuinely doesn't seem to be able to pick up when you are speaking to him, but he doesn't turn his head away in the way you describe.

See if he keeps it up, and if he does maybe ask someone who knows, like your GP

I spoke to my husband about it and he thinks our little boy does it when he thinks he's going to be told off, so like an avoidance thing. Or just because he wants to go and do something else. He's not worried but then he never is . . . I am the one with people in their family who have sn, so i am the one who is on the lookout.

Have you had his hearing checked?

StarshitTerrorise · 13/04/2012 23:46

What does he play?

PooPooInMyToes · 14/04/2012 00:15

Superheros, Dr who, lego, trains, cars, toy story etc.

I think his hearing is ok, just because he has no trouble playing with his sister and when i mention crisps or chocolate!

Yes but what does he DO with them?

PooPooInMyToes · 14/04/2012 10:13

Oh i see. No obsessive lining up. He's got into imaginative play much more lately so he gives them voices, walks them around and things, whole scenarios.
