Is DD2 merely a tomboy or gender confused?

Kind of light hearted but thought provoking too. Our DD2 who's 6 is a tomboy. She plays with cars and dinosaurs, hates pink and dolls, wears boys clothes etc.

We embrace it love her for who she is and that she can express herself.

But if you ask her if she's a boy or girl shell tell you boy. If I say "our my beautiful little girl" shell say "no I'm your handsome boy". even her teacher says what a unique child she is and that she acts and thinks like the boys.

Even though we are fine with it many people try to console us saying that she will turn put the girliest girl ever. As if we are worried about her. We don't want her to change to fit in she wouldn't be DD2 if she did. She's just a very bright unique girl.

The only thing that worries me is that does she actually think she is a boy?

Does anyone else have a child like this?

My god-daughter is like this. Her parents deal with it really well, I think - just accepting it, never commenting either positively or negatively, letting her choose her clothes from the boys section, encouraging her friendships - which are mostly with the roughty-toughty boys in school. One of her teachers said recently at parents evening that they thought it showed great independence and strength of character that she was so sure of who she was.

Incidentally, I was looking at the new Uniqlo uncovered range yesterday and was pleasantly surprised to see that it seems not to be split into boys and girls ranges - good for them.

Thanks all yes we are just going with it allowing her to choose her clothes and toys.

She has said that boys toys are so much better than all the pink girly stuff and I think she has a point there, the pink girls sections in toy shops are nauseating.

I am a complete feminist now as both my mother and father were so pro-boys. My mother used to tell me never to earn more than DP as he wouldn't like that one bit and would leave Hmm I make a point of telling my daughters they can be anything they want, even a digger driving builder!

If it's a phase it's a phase, if she grows up to be a hairy lesbian or turns into a man called Dave I truly don't care as long as she's happy Grin
