Helping 16 month with words...is this any good?

My 16month DS has loads of jargon, and a few words but he seems to have reached an impasse with speech - nothing new for a while - and I wanted to help him along.

Is the Oxbridge Learn to Talk DVD any good?

Or any other suggestions of resources?

IMO, nothing is better for speech development than being talked/sung/read to. He's only 16m, he is almost certainly developing fine - loads of babies aren't saying anything much at that age! Just constant interaction with him, chatting about everything, pointing at everything, singing semi-relevant songs every time you get the chance, that kinda thing is all he needs. Honest Smile

Talking isn't just about learning to mimic words from a screen, its about interaction and communication - neither of which you get from a DVD.

You and your partner and any other siblings/family/caregivers are the best resource your baby could have.

I totally agree with QueenOf. He's way too young to be worrying and you really don't need to spend money on a DVD. Keep the TV and radio off, chat and sing constantly and read loads of stories. They do tend to develop in bursts so an 'impasse' is perfectly normal, my DD wasn't saying much at all at that age but now at 22 months is a real chatterbox. She literally just went from barely any words to suddenly copying everything in a matter of days.

Ok, thanks for the replies - I sort of know it, but I'm a born worrier, so I thought I'd give myself something concrete to do instead of fret! We do all talk to him lots. He has lots of one-to-one attention and I know he soaks it up. I just worry that the words aren't coming, but as you said he's a little un still.

Sorry - my neurosis coming to the fore!

My DD2 had few words at all at 16 months and at 22 months speaks in clear sentances, no Oxbridge Learn to Talk needed. She went through a huge developmental leap at about 18mo and it suddenly all came together.
