23 month old DD waking up in the early hours REALLY angry.

Just wondering if anyone else has had any experience of this. DD is 23 months and has had back too back colds for a few weeks now. The green snot is flowing fast and furious and when she wakes up she is really congested. Every morning her eyes are pretty yucky with mucus too, but it isn't conjunctivitis (no redness and her eyes are clear during the day). Anyway for a couple of weeks now she has been waking up somewhere between 4.30 and 6.00am crying and upset. If me, or DP go through to see what the prob is she is really angry. If you put your hand near her, to rub her back etc, she hits your hand away and gets even more uspet. This morning she started kicking the sides of the cot. If you leave the room, she also cries. We have to pick her up and even then she will struggle with you. She usually sleeps well through the night and on the occasions she did wake up our presence would reassure her - now she is so angry at us.
The only thing I can think of is that she is congested and uncomfortable when she wakes and this is making her react this way.
Anyone had experience of this?

The last few nights our 22 month old dd has been waking at awful hours of the night screaming the entire neighbourhood down. I thought she was coming down with something as no amount of cuddling or anything would settle her. I tried a dose of Calpol, and 20 minutes later she was fine and settling herself back to sleep. We realised today, she has had 4 new teeth start to come through at the back, all at the same time.
I hope that it is something simple like this for your little one.

The back molars would be coming through around now and they're very big. Plenty of pain relief and patience should see you through : )

I went through something similar with DS 22 months recently, only he didn't have a cold and it happened earlier in the night. I found these two pages incredibly helpful and reassuring, especially the comments.

For us it seemed there was a definite link to overtiredness, it would happen when he'd had a shorter nap than usual during the day. More focus on long daytime naps has helped so far, fingers crossed it will continue to do so.

Good luck!

Just thought I'd thank everyone for their replies and update that it was, in fact, teething! Two great, big dirty molars at the bottom. She returned to her usual happy self for a week to ten days and then last night, the angry wakenings started again at exactly the same time as before. Today, she is a drooling and holding her jaw, so I predict a rocky week or so until the top ones appear, and then.... WE ARE FINISHED!!!!!
