Duvet versus sleeping bag

From what age is it considered safe to use a duvet rather than a sleeping bag? Is 13 months too young?

I'm pretty sure our duvet said 12+ months when we bought it. Mothercare packaging!

My DS has been swimming laps in his cot ever since he could move- will your 13mo not just kick a duvet down to the foot of the cot and then get cold?

NagooBunnytail · 03/04/2012 20:52

12 months is considered the age according to the packet.

I would leave them in a bag as long as you can and then go straight to a single duvet rather than a cot bed one, they stay warmer :)

cece · 03/04/2012 20:54

I always leave mine in their sleeping bag till they are able to get out of it on their own. Usually about the age of 2-2 and half. Then go straight into using a duvet.

I often introduce it for a few weeks just for the afternoon nap before using it at night.

IndieNile · 03/04/2012 21:03

I agree that LO risks kicking the duvet off and being cold, EBD

cece - don`t your DC fall and hurt themselves trying to climb out of their cot in a sleeping bag at 2 yrs?

I do prefer the bag option tbh, but just wondered what other people do...

Ds was in his bag until 2 1/2 years old and then got a duvet for moving into his big bed. He never tried to climb out his cot.

My DS is 19mo but mega tall and nearly in the bottom of his 2-3yo bags. I am looking for bigger ones with little joy because my plan was that he would sleep in them til he was about 15. Grin

I never thought about him being able to take them off by himself though. Actually that might happen quite soon as he can already take a zipper coat off which I suppose is a similar thing. Dammit!

What about a grobag duvet as a compromise??

EBDteacher · 04/04/2012 08:37

Ooh what is a grobag duvet?

EBDteacher · 04/04/2012 08:40

They look fantastic alexw. Thanks for the heads up on that.

IWillOnlyEatBeans · 04/04/2012 15:33

DS has just turned two and still uses sleeping bags (age 3-7 year Gro Bags EBDteacher ) even though he is in a bed rather than a cot.

Works for us! He doesn't attempt to take them off and doesn't attempt to get out of bed either

EBDteacher · 04/04/2012 18:32

Why can't I find 3-7 bags then? I thought grobags stopped at 36mo doofus.

IWillOnlyEatBeans · 04/04/2012 18:55

Ok, it's 3-6 yrs. They only do them in certain designs...

You can prob find them cheaper elsewhere.
