Right, there is no nice way to say this: My 20mo DD humps her teddy, is that ok?

Just in her cot, she puts teddy under her and then wiggles her bottom around. Its actually pretty funny to watch but I'm just wondering if its normal and ok or whether I ought to be doing anything about it?

I don't think you should worry too much, but do you know where has this come from? Does she watch any horse riding? Has she seen you and DH up to anything? Maybe a family pet? I understand your concern but at her age it is unlikely to be anything suspicious.

ShowMethePony · 02/04/2012 21:32

I read somewhere its normal, just don't make a big deal so she feels embarrassed and when she's older talk to her about doing it in private.

ForeverBoredForever · 02/04/2012 21:33

She hasn't seen anything that I'm aware of. Nothing horse related, nothing inappropriate on the tv, nothing between DH and I and we have no pets.

I guess she just finds that it feels nice and I guess if its only in her cot no one will ever see anyway. I was a bit Shock about it at first though.

I expect she was just experimenting moving around and found that it feels nice, comforting, whatever.

Calamityboo · 02/04/2012 21:35

Well yes I would be Shock too! I am sure she will grow out of it.

Aah good, I am pleased for you!

hermioneweasley · 02/04/2012 21:46

A little bit younger my DS humped everything vigorously. He's grown out of it (for now...)

ForeverBoredForever · 02/04/2012 21:48

Calamity I know, I was a bit worried typing 'toddler' and 'humping' into google for fear of what might come up but it was a whole page of people saying 'my DD humps her teddy is that ok'.

So whilst i'm not thrilled about it, at least it isn't totally weird.

Hmm

it is perfectly normal, our dd did the same in her cot and bed she is now 5 and again for want of another word started humping the sofa!!! as she is older we tell her to sit up and sit still or say in a nice way that if she wants to do that then she should do it in her own room, they usually grow out of it around 5 and have recently noticed she hasnt done it for a little while

smallmole · 02/04/2012 22:35

My daughter does this too! She's done it since she was a baby - it started with an IgglePiggle but now that she's 5 she just rubs with her hands. I have to be honest, it drives me mad because her puffing and panting is so loud she wakes her sister up but she doesn't do it in public anymore, which was embarrassing, so I can't complain really. Fingers crossed she grows out of it altogether though!

becs1973 · 03/04/2012 00:27

Both my ds do this. They are 18 months and nearly 4 years. The 4 year old likes to gather all his teddies and random toys together and hump them en masse!?! I just leave them to it to be honest, think some kids are just humpers :)

kissingfrogs · 03/04/2012 00:53

This thread makes me laugh!
My dd2 6.6 still does this with Blankey. Especially when tired.
Only now I've got her to call it bumping to avoid the connotations of the word humping, especially as she says "I'm going to have a bump now mummy".

I used to be foot tapper/leg swinger to get rid of energy when trying to relax or wind down, so I reckon this is the same.

Therefore Bumping Blankey is harmless Grin

I'm afraid Ernest, because that's what we called my cock, was rehomed as he was aggressive. He was a gorgeous thing of beauty and very attentive. I'm not sure he would have allowed any sucking to go on though. I think spitting feathers would be an apt phrase.

Goodnight and have a biscuit Biscuit

Boring troll is... boring.

Oh, it's the Easter holidays, isn't it?

redwineandchocolate · 03/04/2012 01:27

There is a terribly embarrassing home video in my family of my mum chatting away to my sister aged 1, cooing over her, completely oblivious to me aged 2 and half rolling around the bed naked in the distance rubbing my clitoris and playing with myself very explicitly. Aged TWO AND A HALF. :/
I also used to deliberately sit on floaty toys in the swimming pool and sort of hump them because it felt nice. Eeeeeek. Blush
So yes some kids are just obsessed with it.

redwineandchocolate · 03/04/2012 01:28

By the way since we realised what I was doing in the background we have never watched said home video ever again, my family's not THAT weird!
