Do I need to be worried?

DD is 6.5 months and is gorgeously smiley but seems quite a lot behind other babies of her age in some ways. She only began laughing about a month ago, she can't sit by herself for more than about 10 seconds without flopping over, she's not interested in putting things in her mouth, she's not interested in food particularly (she'll eat purée if I feed it to her but doesn't watch us eating, doesn't grab food, doesn't grab the spoon), she can't sit in a high chair without getting really upset because she's unstable and she has rolled over no more than 5 times ever. I know it's not helpful to compare her to other babies and I know all babies develop at different speeds and times, but I just have a bit of a niggle about it.

She sounds absolutely fine, most babies aren't sitting properly till they are 8mths , and eating finger foods takes practice. If you are worried pop into a baby clinic or give your Health Visitor a quick ring .

No no no no no!

Do not worry. She sounds lovely.

I think the sort of interaction you are hoping for etc, whilst can be seen in some 6.5 month year olds, is probably more common in an 8 month old.

Ok, thank you! I'm a bit paranoid because of our NCT group all the other babies her age seem quite a bit more advanced in all the physical stuff. They're all boys though-maybe that's something to do with it?

She is the same age as my baby girl and she can't sit on her own yet either. I'm sure the mothers of the other babies have different concerns.

my baby was the last of our nct group to do everything. He was a very laid back baby!
I'm not sure about the sitting thing though - what kind of high chair have you got? I had one suitable from 3months, and a bumbo so had them sitting with me quite a lot and they could sit well by 6 months. Not unaided at all but they could sit with me for lunch or in a bumbo while I did the dishes.

She's fine in the bumbo, it's by herself she flops after a few seconds. The high chair's no good unless she's wedged in as otherwise she flops about in that too.

Dd1 couldn't sit unaided till 8 months. I fed her till then sitting in the bumbo, putting finger foods on the tray while I fed puree. Have vivid memory of putting grated cheese on dd1's tray and she banged her hands down on the tray making the cheese fly everywhere! Was very messy business (dd1 is still very messy though at 3!) :o

Seaweed we've been feeding in the bouncy chair, but I think I'll try the bumbo instead-I worry that the bouncy chair is too reclined so doesn't encourage her to learn to hold herself upright. Cheese sounds fun!!
