Sensitivity to music....

Wonder if anyone has any experience with something similar...

My DS has just turned 6. He's always been sensitive, but not to the extreme.

Just recently there has been a particular song sung during school assembly that makes him incredibly upset - to the point that he is anxious before school. He says it's not the words it's just that there is a 'scary' bit in it. I have the words and we have read them through, this hasn't affected him, it seems to be the melody/music that is upsetting him.

TIA

I can very, very clearly remember repeatedly being upset in choir practice around age 9, due to a specific song (though for life of me can't remember the name of it now), and I don't think I could have told you why then - it wasn't the lyrics, I do remember that.

I don't have any advice to offer, except to say that it might not be uncommon?

I expect someone more helpful will be along in a minute!

i have very memorable feelings about Brahms Cradlesong- (the 'lulluby' music often played by baby toys) it always made me feel sad and tearful if i heard it aged approx 6-12yrs ish and in any context. the assembly music must have a strong assocation with how he felt when hearing it one time. Hard to advise but he has my sympathies- its horrible.xx

Thank you for the responses. jjazz, that's really interesting, and you could be on the money with that explanation. I'm going to ask the I can match anything. Essential - I have looked it up but it doesn't quite fit, thank you for the suggestion though.
