Does my DD have a problem? Stomach pains and behavioural worries

Hello,

My DD is almost 4 and I have some concerns, I'm hoping to get some advice, possible insight into what -if anything -could be wrong.

Things that worry me .....

She complains of tummy aches almost every day.

Doesn't maintain eye contact at all when speaking to people and often completely ignores when someone addresses her/ talks to her

Very easily distracted, is always onto the next thing before finishing the first

Was late to talk - 2.5 before she strung 2-3 words together, but now absolutely fine with a good vocab

Often complains hamstrings hurting when walking

Unable to follow instructions, has to be told many times over, often does things she knows not to do; ruins books and toys, never looks for card when crossing road .... Refuses to go to the loo until she's almost at the point of wetting herself.

Sorry for the long post but I'm worried she may have some kind of problem with concentration - maybe it's related to her diet? She eats like a horse but often has these stomach aches. She does have a very healthy diet.

Or am I just worrying about normal 3-4 year old behaviour? ....

When my dd complained of tummy ache nearly every day it turned out to be constipation. I wouldn't have guessed there to be any problem in that area, but she had quite a backlog. If you've got tummy ache it is hard to concentrate too. Worth asking the GP. I delayed for about a year as she's a drama queen Sad

Take her to the doctors. They'll scan to see everything is ok stomach wise.

I'm wondering if she has a hernia or maybe a digestive problem?

Thanks ladies for your replies.

I think I will take her to the gp ....

I've been reading up on food intolerances and making some notes of when she gets her tummy aches. Today, after breakfast and after lunch. She had toast and then sandwiches as we had a picnic. Wonder if wheat could be a problem?

Re constipation, she's pretty regular and goes at least once a day. Hopefully I can rule that one out.

Easy enough to have a coeliac test, definately worth ruling it out. Get the test done before giving up wheat and gluten though. Also once tested try going back to basics with no processed foods for a week and see if you notice a change.

read Robin Pauc's book 'Is that my child?', he talks a lot about the links between health, diet and behaviour which you might find useful
