Ds has just been diagnosed with a tic disorder aged 4 and we would love some advice on the best way to deal with it. Can anyone recommend a really good book/website for parents of children with this disorder?

Our boy has been doing a strange little roar for a few weeks now and also occasionally paces round the lounge repeatedly combined with sweeping back of hair and stroking under chin.

We know there is no medical solution and hope it will not be too serious, but would love some advice from other parents who have been through similar experiences and any tips on the best way to help him deal with this problem and possibly explain it him

My son has started getting tics and he is 6. My best advice is to ignore it! Understand that we all do things when we are stressed or over tired and although ours might not be so noticable when I tried to talk to my son about his latest tic he cleared his throat 52 times in 20 minutes. Talking about it had made him think about it and had made him so aware of it he got worse. Accept that he will have these tics and they will probably change over time. I know thats not the complete answer you want, but any decent doctor will only tell you the same thing. It is very common for children to get a tic from the ages of 4 - 10 and they can grow out of it as fast as they start it. Good luck and hope things get better for you :)
