Huge blood blister at the back of gum in 13mo?

I have consulted the oracle of Google, and it tells me that this CAN happen when molars are cutting. I KNOW he hasn't hurt his mouth at all - it's too far back IYSWIM.

It looks horrendous. Is this REALLY possible? If not, what else would it be? It looks awful, and it covers the area where two back teeth would be. None of my older 3 dc ever had this when teething.

Why would he be cutting molars when he only has 7 teeth? He got them in this order: Top two middle teeth. Bottom two middle teeth. Top two next to the middle teeth. Then the right hand side bottom tooth next to the middle teeth came through about 5 weeks ago. Wouldn't he get the left hand side to match next, rather than molars??

The blood blister is at the back on the right hand side. Am baffled because I have never seen this before. It doesn't seem to be causeing him any pain - he is happily gnawing on my fingers there.

He has been a lot more 'chewy' on his toys the last couple of days, and he HAS been chewing them at the back of his mouth IYKWIM, because he keeps shoving them too far down his throat and gagging, so maybe it IS the molars cutting - but what a weird way it would be to GET his teeth.

Can someone please calm me down and tell me that this really does happen with some dc when they are teething, despite DS3 being my 4th dc, and being around my friend's dc over the years when they have been teething, I've never seen this before, and I am a little concerned, even though Google says it will be fine!

Do you have a good nurse at your local surgery? At mine, you could ring up with a problem like this and they can talk to you about it without necessarily seeing you, although they might want you to bring him in to check it out, which I know isn't easy in your circumstances.

I did read once that blood blisters can occur as the result of strenuous sucking on teats, but I've no idea where I came across that now. Does he have a bottle or a dummy?

Hope you manage to put your mind at rest. Smile

I have a foggy memory now that my son (now 5) had this. I think I just got him to chew lots of cold stuff?! The tooth came through, as they all do, and it was fine

Can't comment on the blood blister itself but I was told recently that molars can start to come before the others do - DD is also 13 months and teething like hell but with no sign of any other front teeth on their way and she only has 6. I'd take him to the docs just for a bit of reassurance on your part.

Can't comment on the blood blister either but my DS (13 months) has lots of teeth which cut randomly, except for the top and bottom two middle ones, which cut first. One molar actually started cutting before his canines, then stopped, and has recently started again (it's almost through now).
