Are Sylvanian Families suitable for a 2 year old?

She is unlikely to eat them - doesn't really do that - but I thought it might all be a bit tiny and intricate?

I am trying to think of a present for impending DC2 to buy DD.... So any other thoughts would be gratefully received!!

My 2yo dd loves them :) They do come with some tiny, fiddly parts but I just don't give her those.

I do leave the clothes on, but they all end up naked!

Other things dd adores: her train track, her doll's buggy (she sometimes pushes her trains around in it Hmm), Mr. & Mrs. Potato Head, Play Doh.

Congrats to you all on DC2 :)

I'd advise against it until maybe a wee bit older. They are pretty expensive for what they are. I bought a little house and a set of white mice family and my DD drew all over them with pen and then never played with them again!

I would say they are a bit small and fiddley. What about an early learning centre HappyLand house and some figures and animals. My Dd is 23 months and she loves them. They are nice and chunky so much easier for a chubby handed toddler to play with.

Good value too as Sylvanian families toys are quite expensive for what you get.

Congratulations! Smile

My daughter had a few at that age and she didnt appreciate them, she has now got into them age 8 and plays with all the eeny tiny pieces and clothes etc.

they are a fabulous toy but expensive, what we found great at that age was the ELC Happyland absolutley great stuff , you can add to it as well, my 8 year old stil plays with it, along with her 3 year old sister.

Happy land all the way at two. Dd loved it. She is six and has just got into sylvanians. Give yourself a few years before dealing with the itty bitty pieces and make sure your floor boards have no gapsWink

We got some for dd2 at Christmas when she was just 2. She LOVES them. We bought a solid house and a deer family (dd1 chose it) and a guinea pig family. We took all the tiny bits out but she happily plays with it for ages, putting them all to bed, sitting them in the chairs, undressing them and helping them fall down the stairs (of the house).

My DD (3 1/2) i has a few bits but not really interested in them yet. WOW toys are fantastic - they used to do a lovely school set and a farm one. Maybe Peppa Pig house?

piratecat · 16/03/2012 19:46

the figures would be fine if she isn't an 'eater', but not the accessories.

thegreylady · 17/03/2012 18:44

The windmill doesn't have too many small parts and you could get a family to go in it. My dgs played with them all ( boat'car, caravans) from age 2ish.

blueberryboybait · 17/03/2012 18:48

DD1 got a some for her 2nd birthday - we kept all the fiddly bits (usually separately packaged) away from her and she just had the creatures, their car and a wooden house rather than the plastic Sylvanian brand one.

Thegreylady- read too quickly-thought you were saying your dog played with sylvanians!Blush
