Daytime naps gone awry

DS has just turned 6 months, and up until now has been a reasonably good napper during the day - sometimes fed to (almost) asleep, sometimes goes to sleep on his own if put down awake, and reliably falls asleep in his pushchair when out walking.

However since the weekend, he will just not nap during the day. He will only go down at all if fed to almost asleep, then will have 20 mins to half an hour at the most - previously would sleep for 1-2 hours. Putting down awake just leads to a screaming fit, and even when bf, then put down drowsy, he often wakes completely up and cries, whereas before he would wake up put his thumb in his mouth and go to sleep.

For the last 2 days, I have taken him out in his pushchaor in the afternoon, for a long walk of about an hour and a half, and on both these occasions he slept for a maximum of half hour each time, taking almost an hour to go to sleep.

I know he's tired as he is doing his 'tired whinge'. Just not sure what has changed to make it so difficult for him to sleep. I thought it might be teething, so have tried calpol, no difference. He also learned to roll over at the weekend, and I have found him a few times on his front in the cot when he wakes up, so thought it might be that he gets himself on to his front then can't sleep/can't turn back over, however he is still sleeping ok at night (thank goodness!) and is often on his tummy fast asleep when I go to bed.

Also wondering if it is some sort of separation anxiety, as when I put him in his cot, he looks really worried! Although not sure what age that normally starts.

Has anyone had a similar situation? I am really hoping it's just a phase.

Sorry for any typos, have a crotchety wriggly baby in one arm!
