my DS is just turning one and has decided to stop accepting food by a spoon.
Any tips? Smile

give him food he can eat with his fingers? They can eat most things by hand including rice, mashed potato, etc

Chuck a bib on (one with the arms), get a splat mat, give him the bowl and spoon and sob quietly whilst watching the mess evolve Wink

Let him feed himself? My 10-month-old feeds himself about 90% of the time. I give him anything that he can hold and chew on or pick up with finger and thumb.

Some suggestions: cooked veggies like carrots, mini sweetcorns, green beans, baked thick potato or sweet potato chips, rice cakes, sticks of cheese, pieces of meat or chicken he could hold onto and chew on, chunks of crusty bread, bread sticks, stick of cucumber, pieces of soft fruit like papaya, mango, avocado, strawberry, banana, whole blueberries ... you get the idea.

Agree with spottyteacakes. My 13mo just has a plate of wahtever we're having and eats it by the fistful. She will occasionally try and use her spoon as well.

i've just done up my kitchen- oh great.stupid me with Smile.with the baked potato, do they just stuff their fingers in and feed themselves? he's also prone to chuking it all on the floor- i'm assuming you need reserves! do you think that they get enough to eat? that was a worry.
