DD always needing loo late in evening - disturbing her sleep

DD age 8 always seems to need to go to the loo once or twice - or even more - after her light is out and she should be asleep. She's tired due to this, and has trouble falling asleep anyway.

What can we do? Limit fluids after tea? encourage her to go to loo at and before bedtime? What else? It's every night - she's just been to the loo now and it's 9.30!!! She's in bed witb light off about 8-8.15.

She's always awake by about 6.30 as well so I don't think she's getting enough sleep. Arghhh.

What are her drinking patterns like?

If she is drinking loads all day and/or is always complaining of being thirsty I would be concerned she has Type 1 diabetes ( google the rest of the symptoms) You can get a test easily done by GP to eliminate it (but dont take no for an answer as GPs can be reluctant to test - we have experienced this I'm afraid)

If she is drinking normal amounts but still needing to wee a lot she may have a small bladder - again get GP to check.

If none of these then I would say you need to limit amount she drinks in the evening and/or check she is emptying her bladder when she goes (some kids rush it :( )

From what you say she is getting around 9 hrs sleep a night? She could probably do with more but my daughter managed quite well with that much on weekdays at the age of 8 - perhaps getting a little more at weekend.

Don't mean to alarm you about Diabetes BTW, just worth checking it out if she has other symptoms (weight loss, lethargy, hungry all time, others including breath smelling of 'pear drops').

Good luck
