When did you ditch the pushchair?

My dd1 is a good sport when it comes to walking and she always preferred to walk than go in the pushchair unless she got really tired. I tend to walk everywhere though especially here in London.
DD2 was born when DD1 was 24 months. I figured it wasn't worth getting a double and have let dd1 walk everywhere. I sometimes took the sling out and tried swopping them when she got tired but it was a job (bending down to get toddler in pushchair buckled up with newborn in a sling ect)...was a lot more effort than expected, so ditched that idea.
Now, Finally, I have ordered a double dd1 is 2.4 months now and baby 5 months so am wondering how long this will last us and just out of interest when you felt you could let your child walk everywhere.
Personally I think it is easier said than done especially with a toddler and a newborn. But I have read on some forums of mums saying that the toddler should be out of a stroller by 2.5 ect............I wonder if these mums have a newborn too to take along or only walk for short periods?
Thoughts?

DD1 was 17m when DD2 was born. We had a double but sold it last Spring, when DD2 was 2y4m and DD1 was 3y11m. Don't think we'd used it for a while though.

We did get a buggy board to go with the single buggy for emergencies.

My two loved their pushchair. They were both allowed it until their 4th birthdays then went cold turkey, however, probably only sporadic use from 3.5. There's only a 15mnth gap between my two so we always had a double. Do what works for you and your DC and don't worry about what other people say you 'should' be doing.

I have a 23month gap between my DS1 & DS2. I did like you a sling and buggy til DS2 was about 3 or 4 months and then did a double buggy but probably for only about 6/8 months.
Once DS1 was 3 we made the transition to buggy board/walking which was SO much easier than getting on and off buses etc with a double buggy.

With DS2 he probably ditched the buggy by about 3ish, but he was very good at holding hands and not running off etc so I do think I have been lucky.

Make it up as you go along, I don't think there are any hard and fast rules - in fact making it up as I go along is my only rule!

I have a 3 year old and a nearly 2 year old still use a double, it is easier. sometimes lately 3 year old will walk but I tend to use a buggy untill they are 4 especially the wilder of my toddlers

Thanks all. I plan to use single pushchair and let her walk for short trips and probably bus trips and take the double out to get to the park which is quite a way from us and other places.
I am also doing it because I need some exercise!! Although I realise the children need it, mums need it too. so maybe we can take it in turns. :)
Once dd starts nursery I will then have a bit more time to take out dd2 and walk faster.
dd1 is good at holding hands, in fact she doesnt like not holding my hand while out so I am lucky there ...................Until she has a tantrum of course.:)
Also shopping is a nightmare, In fact I pretty much do it all online now but obviously I have to pop in sometimes to get stuff.
Hopefully it will last me through the summer at least anyway.
