I want to have my DS assessed before school starts and have a feeling that a referral will take too long so want to go private but haven't a clue where to start!

Thanks in advance.

Good luck.

search speech therapy threads on here - I came across one with a link to register of private speech therapists. If you are in north london I really recommend Angeli Pawar - she was excellent with my ds1 (he was nearly 4 when they started sessions).

dame do you know what kind of price is it if you go private for this?

sorry to ask another q on your thread op! but just wondering as i have a ds with delayed speech too & waiting for referrals to come back at the moment but just thinking whether this is a viable alternative if it takes ages

It depends a lot on where in the country you are. In the south east (where I am), you can expect to pay a minimum of about £60 per hour in my experience, depending on how experienced the therapist is too.

hey no problem - i wondered about the price too! i don't live in north london but would like to get an idea of how much it might cost - worth every penny either way i think.x

An initial assessment session may be more than this too, Firawla.

60 quid an hour!! will have to start saving up then incase the nhs one does not work out! well i suppose couldn't expect it to be cheap, would just have to hope they do not need many hours! but of course if it helps them then anything is worth it...
good luck with your ds nicknameshame

Firawla - it is expensive but the speech therapists do give you exercises and packs to work through with your child after the session - some children crack their speech issues quite quickly, some quite slowly. It took DS1 6 months to crack his initial speech issue (backing sounds) but after that he really improved his speech massively incredibly quickly

thank you all for your advice. now my next question is what to look for in a speech therapist? and should i be put off by one who seems to think waiting for a hearing test before starting therapy isn't necessary??? common sense tells me that the state of the my little one's hearing is really relevant!
