I'm a mad mummy, help!

Can I seek some reassurance that my PFB is developing normally? I worry incessantly about him and need a quick reality check. He will be 9mo next week. So far he can....

Crawl (slowly!)
Pull self up to standing on everything, including his walker
Sit
Respond to his name more often than not
Smiles
Laughs
Good eye contact
Says mama, baba, wawa but not to anyone/thing
Plays with toys
Feeds self (BLW)
Recognises me and DH
Peekaboo
Loves books, especially lift the flap type

Stuff he doesn't do/I'm worried about...
No waving, pointing, clapping, 'sharing' etc
Doesn't like noises like Hoover, blender etc but fine with traffic, supermarket type noise
Makes little 'mmmm' noises to himself a lot
Doesn't imitate, other than smiles and laughs but no other sounds
Flaps arms a bit
Strains occasionally for no apparent reason
Will no longer roll over, but did it very early - its like he has forgotten how to
Wants to stand up all the time
Doesn't babble loads (although does do it), but does make a lot of noise (mmmm, shouting, raspberries)

I'm aware I might sound mental but please be kind. I'm obsessing because he has two cousins who are ASD, mainly.
Doesn't sleep through!

Be honest, you just wanted to show off what he can do, didn't you?

He probably doesn't need to roll over anymore because he can see everything when he's standing up.

Please don't expect him to share or sleep through until he's at least 2 or 3!!

My DD made those straining sounds too, it was sometimes embarrassing, until one mum told me she thought it was teething-related, and it really did stop when DD had a few teeth. Grin

Your DS sounds great!

He sounds fantastic.

He does babble if he makes baba-dada noises.

He sounds like he is busy trying to move.

Just refer to the NHS website which gives much better guidelines on developmental milestones.

They all flap their arms, a bit - loads etc.

Oh thank you! I'm really not showing off, I'm a worrier and drive myself crazy at home just watching him and thinking "is he 'normal'?"

He doesn't babble loads, but I guess he does do it, which is the main thing. He doesn't do it on cue though, or when I make noises to him. He just looks at me like this Hmm.

I expect he is on BabiesNet right now, asking if his mummy is normal as she is constantly saying 'mamama' to him....

He can do lots for 9 months. Honestly.

QueenKong · 07/03/2012 19:39

What about the stuff he's not doing though? I shouldn't worry about that should I?Blush

I don't think you need to worry! He sounds like he's getting on great my dd has only just started crawling and shes 11months. She's so much more vocal now, claps and waves hello and goodbye things she didn't do at 9months.

I know it's hard but try not to worry. He will do it when he's ready! Just concentrate on all the wonderful things he can do which by the sounds of it is lots Wink

I was a worrier too - until DS2 came along! Then I had no time to worry so I stopped! (a bit!) Your baby sounds like he's doing very well and sounds very similar to all the things DS1 and DS2 did. Remember they're little individual people so they will learn and prefer different things, as individuals do. Some babies like to talk, some don't, etc etc. Try to just relax and enjoy him every day - it is a wonderful time (despite the relentless fatigue) Smile

Haha! OAM - that was DH's solution to my worrying "let's have another one, then you won't have time to worry". Not sure I'm ready yet - the birth memory is still pretty fresh!
