Just wondering, DS is 18 months. When would be a good time to make the change? He sleeps well is his cot but is trying to climb out now!

It happened at 18 months for us and I was so surprised how well it went. We put the bed together with her "help" and she couldn't wait to get in to it.

She had slept in our room so I was anxious about what she'd think about a new room and new bed. We talked about it a lot to her beforehand and put a mattress on the floor incase she fell out. She never looked to come back to the cot or our room and hasn't fallen out either.

Best of luck with yours!

DD1 was 2, DD2 is 2 1/2 and still in her cot and shows no signs of budging!

could you get him used to cot without sides first, and then move him into his own room, or move his cot first, the na put in a bed, so its not new room and new bed all at once?'

Will give that a try first olivo :) thanks

I would move DS but he travels round his cot so much at night, I'd worry firstly about him falling out and secondly, he'd wriggle out of his duvet. But we're going to have to stop with the sleeping bag soon, aren't we because he stands up in it sometimes? (eek)

Sorry for the thread hijack OP Smile

a lot easier to fall out of a cot without sides than a bed. i'd go straight to the bed.

ds went into a bed at 2, i deliberately bought the lowest bed i could find which handily also turned out to be one of the cheapest with a simple untreated pine frame.

slatternlymother My dd is only 8 months and already stands up (by pulling herself up and holding on, of course) in her sleeping bag, and cruises in it if she's feeling particularly showy offy!!

slatternlymother · 09/03/2012 09:08

mrspotter that's it, DS now stands up when he sees me in the morning and shuffles towards me! I mean, that's got to be dangerous, right?! I was thinking he'd be kept in on one side by the wall and I could get a bed guard for the other side maybe?

His cot has tiny sides, which he could easily climb out of but weirdly doesn't. I think it's only a matter of time though isn't it?

Also the sleeping bag; would you just ditch and put him straight in a duvet?

I bought a bed from ikea-they are junior size so very low and have a removable bar so it would be difficult to fall out. here. Very cheap too although this price doesn't include the mattress.

Good luck!

Awww I love that kritter bed! Very cute! Although I convinced DH to buy the cotbed when I was pregnant, and pay the extra for it so I'll have to use it now Grin

whats the problem with sleeping bags? My DS 22 months is still in a sleeping bag (and cot). He wriggeles around so much that he would just wiggle our of a duvet. he can stand up in the sleeping bag but is much less mobile then when he's not in the sleeping bag. if he trying to crawl round in his sleeping bag i call him slug boy lol

IMissSleep · 10/03/2012 08:19

Thanks for your replies!

Had to take him out of his sleeping bag at 13 months, kept banging his head when trying to stand up! His very tall for his age and the sleeping bag just annoyed him I think!
sigmundVoid thanks for the link, that's just what I'm looking for!

Think I'll keep us cot made up in the spare room, just in case he hates the bed! Do I puta baby gate on his room door?? My friend has and her DS (2.5) plays nicely by himself in the morning for 20 mons before waking her!

Yes defo a gate on his door. DS has one on his door but unlike your friends ds he doesn't play nicely in a morning like we hoped he would! He just stands at the gate screaming 'wake up now! get up mummy! mummy wake up! wake up! get up!'

IMissSleep · 10/03/2012 08:30

Yes my DS will probably be the same fragglerocker!

Lazy mornings are a thing of the past :)
