When do you have to be careful about grown-up tv/films?

Just thinking the other day- DH was watching Walking Dead while our 16mo was rumbling around in the living room. DS doesn't pay much attention to tv but I wondered at what point we might have to be selective about when we watch grown-up programmes? I don't mean porn obviously! But things with violence, horror or swearing in them?

Tricky one, as there are murder progs on some channels all day these days! I would say that once DS starts to pay attention to the TV then you should leave it til after his bedtime - can't imagine his bedtime is very late, so is it really necessary to watch these during the day anyway?

We're now coming out the other end of that and having nearly teenage DS taking himself up to bed rather than have to watch programs with any sex or childbirth in them (I put One Born Every Minute on when its time for him to go to bed - never seen him move so fast Wink )

I'm not quite sure, my DDs are much older now so can't be 100%.

I would say though that even if they can't understand the words being said on screen, they can pick up moods/loud music/screams etc quite early on.

I think now is about the right time to stop him seeing violence/horror etc.

I would say between now and the next couple of months when their imaginations start to really come in to play.
Our ds is 4, loves Ben 10 et al superheroes but tends to have bad dreams about chickens LOL.

At 16 months I would make sure there wasn't anything with violence, horror, swearing, screaming or lots of shouting in them.

Why would you want your baby to hear that?!

I agree with others. Screams, violence, swearing, shouting; anything with an intense adult vibe to it, would be something I would not want my 16 month old exposed to.
