Just that really!

Can anyone recommend some books that will give ideas/ advice about parenting toddlers through the early years.

I've got 'The No-Cry Discipline Solution' by Elizabeth Pantley which is quite nice.

have heard good things about 'playful parenting' too, forgotten the author of that one though!

Try Playful Parenting and my personal favourite Toddler Taming. Both very positive and inspiring

I really liked 'Adventures in Gentle Discipline', mainly because it was full of anecdotes to show that different things work for different people. Not sure if it's still in print but if you have an LLL group nearby then they might have a copy you can borrow.

I also liked 'How to talk so kids will listen...' it seems to be aimed at older children but had a few good ideas.

'Unconditional Parenting' is good but more of a philosophy than practical tips. It might help you figure out your own ways though.

I think my favourite is probably 'Raising Your Spirited Child', DD1 is very sensitive and it made me feel more normal and less exasperated at some of the things she does.

Tizzie Hall's book How to Raise a Happy Toddler is good as is Jo Frost's (Supernanny) though I'm not sure what her toddler book is called- some great ideas in there for little issues that crop up so you avoid them escalating.

I really like 'the happiest toddler on the block' by Harvey Karp. Very 'American' in tone, but that doesn't bother me. Practical tantrum prevention and 'treatment'!

Not just for toddler years but I've found it really interesting and my DD is 2.
Slightly american but not off-puttingly so!
It's called Playful Parenting - you can get it on Amazon here
