Newborn mucus - how long does it last?

My baby is nearly 10wks old and is still very snuffly. Last night she was coughing a lot and grunting - she (and me) had very disturbed nights sleep. Just wondered how long it will take to clear - I thought it would have gone by now! Also any ideas to help ease it?

I had a 'snuffler' too, from what I remember it gradually disappeared by about 2 months. Have you tried raising the end of the cot/moses basket a little bit? It helps when they are snuffling or have a cold as it stops the mucus collecting in the throat so much.

Maybe mention it to your health visitor, see what she says.

Hope littl'un feels better soon.

Mo idea. My ds1 was snuffly for the first 6 weeks but DS2 is now 10 weeks and STILL very rattley and snuffley. When he feeds he is especially bad and often in the night he wakes himself up with it almost gas[ing he is so mucoussy.

My 5 week old DD is a snuffler too, keep having bad nights as she hates to be on her back. Think she actually caught a cold off her brothers as she has proper mega bogies. When it gets really bad use saline drops up the nose before a feed and this does help the bogies come out. Also we have her moses basket raised and olbas oil in bowl of warm water in room. This does all help but has not actually fixed the prob...lets hope they grow out of it soon.

DS2 was like this and it turned out he had a dairy intolerance - his was so bunged up in his sinuses and every night at about 4am would wake up choking on the mucus. I am sure that your LO's are fine, but do keep an eye on it as GP's are very slow to diagnose IME.

With DS3, the mucous has gone after 2 weeks.
