13 mo and weird behaviour at mealtimes...

Ds is 13 mo and always been a good eater. Weaned on a combination of mush and finger food, never had a problem with lumpy textures etc... Over the past few weeks though this has all changed. He has started taking mouthfuls of food, chewing and then spitting it all back out! He did this for probably 3 out of 4 mouthfuls of his tea last night (lasagne) and then again at lunch today- spat out 3/4 of a babybel which has always been a failsafe snack, and the same with banana and blueberries. He sucked the tomato sauce off tubes of penne, chewed the pasta a bit then sat it out. It is making mealtimes, especially when out and about a total nightmare. I can't understand why if he wasn't hungry he would put it in his mouth in the first place?

He is ok with weetabix, yoghurt etc, so just wondering if it could be a texture thing and what do to?? He is still bf but only at night, will drink cows milks and water fine during day. Any tips greatly appreciated as it is driving me mad!

DS2 is 15 months but was 2 months premature so technically 13 months lol!

He's doing exactly the same thing and has been for about 2 weeks...he'll put the food in and then spit it out even if it's things that I know he likes (and yes he does it with babybel as well). I was cleaning his teeth last night and noticed a huge lump and blood blister at the back where Im assuming one of his molars is coming through so have figured it's that.

It will pass. DS went the same way for a few weeks. Think it was a combination of development, teething (first molar appeared soon after) and illness - colds and bunged up noses always alter our tastes so i imagine it's the same for our LOs!

DS is back to eating 100% normally again at 15mo, just when i was beginning to worry he'd developed a hatred of lumpy food!

Yup, going through this at the moment too with 15mo DS. Can't wait for it to be over, it's stressing me out how little he's eating and the thought that he's going to be fussy forever - but am trying to just wait it out and give him the things he will eat even if it's not as varied a diet as I would like at the moment.

We had this recently with 15mo DS who was also a bit grumpy.

After a few days DH and I both got loads of really vicious mouth ulcers and felt a bit flu like.

I think it must have been a virus. It went on for about a week. Once I'd twigged I just gave him really plain food like yoghurt, fruit puree, soup (cool) and soft bread. He is back to normal now.

Ok thank you that is reassuring! Am really hoping it will pass soon! Interesting point about teething, he is very drooly atm.

he's doing it 'cause he can!.Make no fuss and as others have said- he will be onto the next thing before you know it.
