Are most five year old boys this silly/annoying?

Ds1 is 5.8 and seems to be getting progressively sillier. Examples of this are saying silly words (willybooly, bumwackers etc) and finding it hilarious, and pulling really stupid faces, which, although I know he is just playing, I find really hard to be patient with. He seems to think that me and dh will also find this stuff funny, when actually it is just really irritating.

Are your five year olds like this, or has mine got a problem?

Well we went out for a very civilised pub supper on Saturday night with the inlaws, and the next day my 5 year old DS1 asked me if we'd been "drunken" and then the 3 year old DS2 asked "Mummy, did you show your bottom?" - cue hysterical laughter. Don't know what kind of evening they were imagining, but bottom chat is non stop (and there's DS3 aged 1 coming up to help....)!

lollystix · 21/02/2012 22:55

'Willy willy buttcrack' is the phrase du jour in my house. Ds1 started it and now I can't shut ds2 (3.6) up - he says it and starts rolling round the floor in hysteria. 'pooface' is also a common term of endearment nowadays.

WineWineWineWine

Tis the only solution.

hermionestranger · 21/02/2012 23:06

Yep ds1, 6, is exactly like this. It's baaaaaad. I just keep saying one day he will lock himself in his bedroom and only grunt at me. GrinWinkSad

Oh dear. I think I may have the sense of humour of a five year old boy.
Oh well, at least DS and I will enjoy ourselves in 4 years time! Or should I say "poo pooooo, poo poo poo poo poo poo poo poo poooo poo poo poo poo poo poo"?

Thetokengirl · 21/02/2012 23:12

I have three DSs - 10, 7.5 and 3. On there own, yes they find toilet humour funny. Get them together and it's the most hilarious thing in the world.
DH, aged 43, has been known to join in as well. It is definitely a boy thing and one of the reasons I have the nn I have Grin

duke · 21/02/2012 23:13

Anything I ask my ds5 to pass/fetch me arrives with a fake dog poo on and much hilarity. The best yet was when I was kneeling on the floor and he put his Willy on my wrist and said 'woo hoo sausage o'clock' I tried to be cross but just fell about laughing.

Deux · 21/02/2012 23:20

My DS is 8 and also no end of this in sight. Dd is 3.5 and copies him and thinks it's all hilarious.

Especially he'll say to her, pull my finger ... And then he farts. I tell myself that she'll have a better understanding of men when she's older.

I just find it puzzling when DH and BIL join in.

duke · 21/02/2012 23:25

My brother taught my ds' the pull my finger trick and also watch this lads I'm pooing sweets whilst dropping treats for them from behind?!?! Hence he's favourite uncle, He's 36 so everyone don't hold your breath toilet humour lasts forever!!!!

conorsrockers · 22/02/2012 07:08

Yr gonna have to lighten up I'm afraid. It comes with the territory. The more you show your disgust the more they'll do it. Try and see the funny side. On the other hand if that's the biggest thing you have got to worry about - yr onto a winner!!

TubbyDuffs · 22/02/2012 07:13

My 7 year old recently came out of the screeching out silly noises for no reason, being totally daft phase only for my 5 year old to take up the baton and carry on.... its like a demonic tag team.

Hopefully, by my calculations, I should just have another 2 years of this, as I'm sure my now 2 year old DD will be much more sensible (OH GOOD GOD I HOPE)

surfandturf · 28/02/2012 09:48

Thank you all for reassuring that I'm not on my own in this. DS is 6 in 2 weeks time and I was in tears this weekend over his silly behaviour. I don't mind it occasionally with us and have told him that it's in the playground with his friends but he has started to call complete strangers these types of names when we are out in public Shock - it's totally mortifying Blush

surfandturf · 28/02/2012 09:49

*fine - it's fine in the playground with his friends

Convert · 28/02/2012 09:55

My 5 yr old is exactly like this and has taught his 3 yr old brother all of it too.

My DH also thinks it's all hilarious. I have actually banned the word poo from the house.

SomekindofSpanish · 28/02/2012 10:02

I'm with those who say embrace it. It does not last forever, they are happy and laughing together. What's not to like Grin? (apart from calling random strangers silly names - that does need to stop).

I have 3 sons and sometimes I find it funny, sometimes not, but I don't get uptight about it. I also know girls who thinks it's hilarious.

SomekindofSpanish · 28/02/2012 10:03

My boys are 10, 6 and 4.

diplodocus · 28/02/2012 10:09

It's not just boys. Bums and poos are the main topic of conversation in our house (DDs 4 and 6) and plenty of their little friends seem only too happy to join in.

Wheresmycaffeinedrip · 28/02/2012 10:11

Applys to my dd too!!!! Aaaah :) drives you crazy doesn't it!

minouminou · 28/02/2012 22:37

I have almost wet myself over "sausage o'clock". That is just priceless.

And yes, it's quite normal - for girls and boys. DS is five and has his "flying dinkle" trick....he pulls his foreskin out to the sides so it looks like wings and flaps his dinkle up and down whilst saying "Ferlyyyyiiiin' dinkeeeeeeeeellllllll".

DD (almost three) has discovered mooning....she mooned me the other day whilst cackling "You got a WINKIE, Mama.......ah ha ha ha haaaaaarrrgghghhghh"

We aren't exactly mature ourselves, though. Whilst painting the front room recently, DP and I were daubing cocks on the walls....I'm 40 and he's 41. It won't get much better with age I'm afraid.

PestoPenguin · 28/02/2012 22:38

Oh yes! Totally normal and maddening at times too.

janinamc · 28/02/2012 23:02

"willy willy buttcrack" and "sausage o clock"- HILARIOUS and I am in my 40s. Mother to a 14 yo DS and 6 yo DD who, I am sorry to say both share this sense of humour. I obviously lead a very boring life!
