Lisp's. When do you know they have one?

I think dd may have one but could it be too early to tell. She is 2.3 and can say alot of words but when she says something with an S she puts her tongue onto her teeth IYSWIM to say it so she sounds as though she has a lisp.

Has anyone got any experience of this or is it normal for them to do it at this age?

I think it is really common at that age. My dd did it until she started nursery at 3.

my ds still has a lisp now and he's 3.8 i personally think it is to do with the dummy im not too worried yet as they are still developing he is in full time nursery in primary school and the teachers havent mentioned it but some children there dont talk much anyway as i say its a little early but will keep a check on it tho

I think it's very normal for them at this age. My DS1 has just turned 4 and he lisps. His nursery teacher is Polish and has about 3 Ss in her name and it sounds so funny when he says it!

I still have a lisp (32 now). Started when I was about 4 and despite being told I would grow out of it, I never did. Have noticed that dd (2.5) says "think" instead of "sink" so wonder whether she'll have one too, or whether she'll realise that most people can pronounce their esses.

Dd has a lisp on all her 's' sounds. She is 5.5. Tbh, I'm not going to worry about it anymore. She can make the proper sound, but it is with great effort and would require her to think about it all the time. I think if it bothers her enough in a few years, she'll make the effort.
