No more buggy

I just wondered at what age you got rid of the buggy?

My son is 2 years old and he walks short distances and we can go to my mums with out the buggy or to a shopping centre that is close by with out it.

Place that are very busy I will take the pram and he doesn't walk at all although I know he would love to.

I have reins for him but he hates them. He walks well and does listen sometimes.

Depends on the child my ds now 3 hasn't used the buggy since he turned 1-he was walking very early and hated it lol! The fact that I don't drive meant he had to walk or use the buggy, he chose to walk. But my friends boy is still in his buggy and loves it, each to their own Smile

We don't have a car and walk to park/shops every day. I think this has also a lot to do with how much you're willing to carry your child. I won't carry DS for more than a v. short distance (am prone to inflamed chest muscles, so not taking an chances here, also DS at 2.4, and nearly 2 stone, he is getting heavy). The rule tends to be either walk or sit in buggy. Quite often DS chooses to do neither and just stop, cry and/or collapse in a heap. Then I have to force him in the buggy. Sometimes he will want to walk, but usually not in my chosen direction. Trying to get him to walk where I want to go will usually result in the aforementioned reaction. Therefore, I tend to have him in the buggy until we reach a park or some such child friendly/car free place and then let him run free. Really do not think I'll get rid of the buggy until he is at least 3 and maybe a bit more reasonable (easier to bribe :) ). Also, it's sooo convenient for hanging shopping on..

Or do I just have a particularly tantrummy and stubborn child? Grin

I use the buggy occasionally for my 3.5 year olds as they have an older brother. I stopped my first ds when he was younger than them, but now they have to do 2 school runs a day and it's a lot.

DD1 stopped using a buggy at 21mths when DD2 was born. We then used a buggy board for her if she got tired.
DD2 is now 21mths and generally walks most places but we use the buggy for long trips and the school run as we are generally in a rush - Especially first thing in the morning!
I have attached a wrist rein to the side of the buggy that DD1 likes to hold. She calls it her handle. She doesn't put it round her wrist, just holds it. Its stops her hanging off the side of the buggy draggin it to one side, means her feet are away from the buggy wheels and means she's close to me when its busy.

I would still use the buggy and let him out to walk when its appropriate. Maybe try a special 'handle' if you worried about him going getting lost or going too far. You will notice that he can further over time and can slowly do without the buggy at all.
this is a similar thing. We only used the wrist strap as we had one previously anyway and it does the same job.

He's not bad at listening and doesnt run off often but he is easily distracted/ If he sees something he wants to touch or look at then he will. It's just places like town and lobger bus journeys I worry about
