That doesn't sound too bad to me. How tall are you and your partner?

DD was 89 cm at 2 years and three months and is slightly taller than average now (11 years)

roopickles · 19/02/2012 14:28

im 5"3ish and partners slightly taller only few inches, my DS(9) slightly below ave for age but not much?

I don't think you need to be concerned. It looks like your LO has inherited your genes.

DD is tall because we are (5ft7 and 6ft2).

Sirzy · 19/02/2012 14:32

That doesnt sound that short. DS is 2.3 and only about 87cm

bigTillyMint · 19/02/2012 14:35

Your DD's height sounds perfectly normal to me - must be around average? Definitely nothing to worry about Smile

Just looked in DD's old red book - she was 86cm at 2yrs - just about bang on the 50th centile for height. She is still about there now aged 12 1/2, but looks pretty short compared to her peer group. She was below the 9th percentile at birth though!

roopickles · 19/02/2012 14:35

thanks... wish people said how cute she was (she can be at times lol) and not how short!

My DS was only 79cm tall at 2yr check. DCs are all different, as long as your DD is eating well and staying roughly on a centile line there's nothing to worry about.

TheOneWithTheHair · 19/02/2012 14:39

Don't worry too much. Dd was 37cm when she was born at full term. She is now 8 and bang on average as far as I can tell. You could tell you hv if you are concerned and she can measure to make sure.

roopickles · 19/02/2012 14:39

yes bigtillymint she was just below 9th just had a look, am assuming the thick red line is average? I worked out shes just below that... phew was thinking of turning to the HV :)

OP posts:
bigTillyMint · 19/02/2012 14:42

Yes, that's the average. Though DS is on the average, and he is 2nd shortest in his class. There are some mahoosive girls and boys round here. I wonder where all the shorties live?Smile

roopickles · 19/02/2012 14:44

Lol in my area by the looks of things :) Thankyou for reassurance ... Good things come in small packages, so im told.

My DS has always been in the shaded blue zone at the very bottom of the growth charts, but it's not a problem as he eats like a horse and is very active.

Dd has had a growth spurt so is a whopping almost 90cms, weighs 25lbs and is 3 in May! Some are just dinky. She takes after me and my family all start off as shorties, grow loads as teenagers and work out to be 5'5 or taller!

roopickles · 19/02/2012 16:54

Thanks strandedbear I will def say that next time! :)

Don't worry, she's average and they have spurts. Just checked DD's book out of interest. She was 86cm at 2.4, so below average then, but now she's 3.3 she's 96cm which is bang on the 50th percentile Grin. I really notice that she's overtaken some of her peers who used to be taller!

Tgger · 19/02/2012 20:03

Also, my daughter didn't have any hair, or hardly any at 2 and people would often think she was a year younger than she is until she opened her mouth Grin. It was frustrating but understandable. She now has hair (still not loads, but hair!) and is more obviously her age.

Tgger · 19/02/2012 20:04

Oh yes, and the snowsuit we inherited from cousin that says 12-18 months fitted her nicely this winter Grin.

roopickles · 19/02/2012 20:09

oh thanks tgger lol mine hasnt got much hair and what she has is quite thin so it may be she looks younger, anyway the longer theyre like babies the better. :)

OP posts:
Tgger · 19/02/2012 20:11

Ah yes, that'll be it then Grin. DD here is also thin/petite. I think other toddlers have just about stopped referring to her as "the baby"- she used to get very cross with that (aged about 2.5!).

roopickles · 19/02/2012 20:19

same here she also gets reffered to as a baby abd she says "no big girl" she's no push over which will be handy as shes diddy :)

Ozziegirly · 19/02/2012 23:27

I think it's probably better being a bit smaller than average than taller - two of my friends have tall boys who are only 18 months old, but as they look "older" they tend to have different expectation placed on them by other people as to behaviour etc.

My DS is firmly 50th centile but when he was walking at 12 months I often got people going "ohh, he's so small to be walking" when really he's totally average (although obviously wonderfully above average in my eyes).

leftmymistletoeatthedoor · 19/02/2012 23:30

No I wouldn't be AT ALL worried.

Its true that she's better on the short side. Both my kids are giants tall and people expect so much more of them, its not fair.

GreatGretzky · 20/02/2012 00:04

I wouldn't be worried, DD was about that height when she was 2 :)

DS2 is 2.4 and 87cm

roopickles · 21/02/2012 10:28

thanks all feel reassured now, ill just focus on sorting the tantrums out now :)
