Teething! Arghhhhh!

Just wanted to vent really as I know there isn't much I can do about it and my DS isn't doing it on purpose but he's 6 months and this is his first proper teething and my normally chilled, happy, smiley, funny, giggly baby has turned into a crying, grumbly, pathetic (as in normally not bothered if he bangs himself but now suddenly its the end of the world and cries hysterically) baby!

I've heard him properly crying more in the last 2 days than in his entire 6 month life put together and it breaks my heart! He woke crying this morning and it was 1pm before he stopped snivelling and gave me a smile : (

My DH is on nights so I had all the wake ups to deal with all night and all the crying today while he slept and I'm exhausted!! I love my DS more than life but there was a point today when I actually would have loved to have just handed him over to someone and go and get drunk! I felt like such a bad mum!!

Luckily he seems better this evening so fingers crossed I'll get a few hours decent sleep!!

Sorry to whinge, sure many of you have been here!

Feel your pain. DS spent the last week cutting his top 2 teeth and was so miserable. We had a brief respite of a few days before another one started making its way through. Argh. He is so phlegmy with it as well, bless him.

Have you tried teething gel or Calpol? Helped my LO when battling with teething. Poor little mites.

hayesgirl · 18/02/2012 22:11

Yeah I've been using both, does make a difference but he's just so miserable : (

Try alternating calpol and calprofen every 4 hours. This was suggested to me by a doctor. It could just take the edge off! I feel for you because my dd has been cutting her fangs for the last week!!!

Try Ashton and parsons powders. They really help. The only problem is they are hard to find! I've been in boots and seen mums clearing the shelf! Wink

GodisaDj · 19/02/2012 19:40

Ditto powders. I use nelsons and lots and lots of cuddles and talking to him.

OP I could have wrote your post a couple of weeks ago when dd cut her first. I was like "who are you and what have you done with my baby?" Sad she then cut another one within 5 days. Bless her.

Like I say, lots of cuddles and telling them you are there for them and not imagining a large glass of Pinot waiting on a cosy table in a country pub Grin sounds like you are doing a fab job though op and that you love your ds very much Smile

Today I have enjoyed acidic smelling poo and mega red bottom. And a fair amount of dribble. Poor love.

I know some people say it's a load of mumbo jumbo but have you tried an Amber teething necklace? I swear it has helped my DD through some nasty bouts of teething. You can buy them online - the ones with magnetic clasps are good as they can be worn at night with no danger as they just pop open if caught on something. I've read that in some countries in Europe they are so common they are sold in normal pharmacies, but here you have to look online. Apparently when the Amber is warm next to the skin it releases something that has anti-inflammatary properties. It's worth a try!

We had an amber teething bracelet when our baby was teething. We've got it from www.gembid.co.uk. Our baby is a calm boy so I'm not really sure if it was exactly amber teething necklace that helped him so much, but i am pretty sure it did helped a lot.
First of all, I believe that it helps because my friends also used them and was happy with the results. Secondly, the healing powers of amber is known for a long time, and this stone/tree resin is widely used in medicine. I don't see any reason why moms and dad's couldn't give it a chance and try these necklaces.
